NATURE OF WORK
- The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in carrying out various technical duties related to the gathering, selection, consolidation and dissemination of environment-related information and data.
- Specifically, the Environmental Technician will oversee and coordinate some aspects of the College’s environmental, sustainable, and environmental health projects and files. In accordance with the regulations in force, the Environmental Technician will give technical help by carrying out research, writing out specifications and by performing inspections on environmental aspects of projects/files. The incumbent will operate instruments related to environmental measurements and coordinate waste management programs.
- The incumbent will prepare reports on relevant files and will be responsible for the gathering, analysis and presentation of information/data required for the College’s AASHE certification.
- RESPONSIBILITIES- Undertakes projects related but not limited to resource use, waste management, environmental health,pollution reduction, risk management and biodiversity
- Ensures upkeep of documentation, filing and reporting of environment related information
- Gathers, examines, selects, organizes, and present information regarding performance indicators (e.g.energy, resource use, pollution reduction, waste management, biodiversity)
- Analyzes and consolidates documents related to relevant files
- Carries out the implementation of environmental policies and practices
- Assists in research and data collection for the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System(STARS) at Dawson College
- Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate individuals and organizations to ensure that Dawson is an active and visible part of the community, responding to environmental needs
- In collaboration with other staff members when necessary, carries out inspections and testing;implements necessary corrective measures; makes the necessary recommendations for required improvements
- Studies and proposes energy saving measures, sustainable practices, etc.; implements them or oversee their implementation when they are approved by the College
- Report regularly to the Supervisor on the progress of established goals and, when requested, provide reports and/or presentations
- Trains less experienced technicians and coordinates the work of other support employees involved in the carrying out of technical operations for which s/he is responsible
- Perform other related tasks

**Requirements**:

- QUALIFICATIONS
- To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
- CONDITIONS- Advanced communication skills in French
- oral/written/comprehension (testing may be required)
- Intermediate communication skills in English - oral/written/comprehension (testing may be required)
- Knowledge of environmental program planning and implementation would be an asset
- Must be organized and have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel (testing may be required) and PowerPoint
- Background in report writing
