**Position Summary**
The Director of Lands and Resources is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational management of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ's lands and resources. This role ensures the protection, sustainable use, and development of the Nation’s lands in alignment with Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ's vision, laws, and policies. Under the leadership of the Director of Operations, the Director of Lands and Resources will collaborate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and the community to safeguard Indigenous rights, promote sustainability, and drive land-use initiatives.
The Director will be supported by the Human Resources department for all recruitment, performance management, and HR-related functions.
**Primary/Core Responsibilities**
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government policies, standards, practices and procedures, as directed by the Director of Operations or designate.
**Leadership and Strategy**
- Lead and guide the strategic direction of the Lands and Resources department.
- In collaboration with the Director of Operations, Oversee the development and implementation of land-use policies, ensuring sustainability and compliance with regulations.
**Operational Management**
- Manage day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring programs and projects align with Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ's mission and policies.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations regarding land and resource use.
- Oversee the administration of land-related programs and ensure accurate documentation and reporting.
**Financial and Project Management**
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring financial accountability.
- Lead the preparation and submission of funding proposals for land and resource-related initiatives.
- Monitor expenditures and provide financial reports as required.
**Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement**
- Represent Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ in negotiations with external partners, including government agencies, industry, and community stakeholders.
- Engage with Elders and community members to integrate traditional knowledge into modern land-use practices.
- Build partnerships to advance sustainable resource management.
**Human Resources and Team Development**
- Collaborate with the HR department to support recruitment, training, and staff development.
- Ensure staff have the necessary skills and training to meet departmental goals.
- Work with HR to manage performance evaluations, training plans, and succession planning.
**Qualifications**
**Training, Education and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in Land Use Planning, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
- 6-8 years of experience managing land and resource programs, preferably in an Indigenous context.
- Knowledge of Indigenous Title and Rights, environmental regulations, and treaty agreements.
- Proven financial management experience, including budgeting and funding proposals.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and ability to work in varying outdoor conditions.
- Criminal records check required.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Knowledge of Indigenous Title and Rights, relevant environmental regulations, and the Maa-nulth Treaty.
- Strong understanding of land-use planning, resource management, and sustainable development practices.
- Experience with budgeting, financial planning, and managing funding proposals.
- Ability to analyze complex information and make informed decisions on land and resource issues.
- Leadership skills to mentor, coach, and guide a diverse team.
- Interpersonal and communication skills for effective negotiation, collaboration, and public engagement.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to integrate traditional Indigenous knowledge into modern land-use strategies.
- Project management skills to oversee multiple initiatives and ensure timely delivery.
- Computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and database management systems.
Pay: $1.00 per year
