Community Engagement Coordinator
At London Cares Homeless Response Services, we believe in a community where every person matters. We work alongside people experiencing homelessness with dignity, compassion, and connection — and we are looking for someone who shares these values to join our leadership team.
As our Community Engagement Coordinator, you won’t just be writing about our mission — you’ll be living it. This is more than a communications role. We’re seeking a bold, creative, and connected communicator who brings a deep understanding of homelessness and housing challenges — ideally through front-line experience or lived expertise — and can translate that insight into powerful storytelling, policy advocacy, strategic partnerships, and impactful public engagement.
London Cares programming continues to grow and expand to meet the needs of the community we serve. We are seeking a communication & engagement expert to join our team in a full-time in-person capacity working Monday to Friday. Our compensation package includes a competitive salary, group health and dental benefits, paid sick time, as well as 3 weeks of vacation to start. This is a permanent full-time position.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for a mid-level leader who is ready to bring their writing, strategy, and advocacy talents to a dynamic, purpose-driven organization. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, you will:
- Grow our reach — building and managing media relationships, community partnerships, and public presence.
- Support our mission — by crafting compelling grant proposals and fundraising messaging that bring in essential resources.
- Drive engagement — planning and executing events that connect the public to our work and elevate the voices of people with lived/living experience.
- Be our advocate — participating in sector tables, engaging with municipal and provincial partners, making connections with new and existing donors, and keeping our team aligned with current political and funding landscapes.
- Collaborate deeply — with frontline teams, leadership, people with lived experience, and community stakeholders.
You Are Someone Who:
- Is a strong, persuasive, and sensitive writer, able to shift tone depending on audience — funders, media, donors, or community.
- Has a background in the homelessness or social services sector — as a frontline worker, peer support, or with lived experience.
- Understands the power of strategic communications and storytelling to change hearts, minds, and systems.
- Has hands-on experience managing social media channels, website content, and digital campaigns.
- Is connected and respected within the homelessness and housing sector or can quickly build those relationships.
- Brings experience in event planning, campaign execution, and public relations.
- Understands the nonprofit funding landscape, including grant writing and proposal development.
- Follows the political environment closely and understands how to leverage it for advocacy.
- Cares deeply about social justice, equity, and reconciliation, and integrates these principles into your work.
Qualifications:
- Highschool diploma or equivalent required
- High level attention to detail
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, public relations, communications, or marketing considered a strong asset
- Experience in community engagement, communications or fundraising with nonprofit organizations required
- Public relations or government relations experience an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
- Willingness to take on any task with a positive, can-do attitude
- Knowledge or passion for social inequities relating to housing or homelessness required
- Shared values and understanding of harm reduction principles
- You have an awareness of anti-oppression; anti-racism and you have a trauma-informed lens when dealing with people
- You are a supporter of harm reduction and believe in meeting people where they’re at.
- Experience or knowledge within the homelessness or non-profit sector, including knowledge of community resources considered a strong asset
- Ability to cope with and embrace change, ambiguity, and uncertainty
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written along with great interpersonal skills
- Integrity and trustworthiness, with an ability to handle sensitive information effectively and confidentially
- Superior attention to detail and excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a team
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
What We Offer:
- A workplace rooted in compassion, collaboration, and courage.
- The opportunity to shape the public narrative around homelessness in London.
- Flexible hybrid work, with office space in downtown London.
- A supportive leadership team committed to growth and impact.
- Competitive salary and benefits pack
