Stsv-435 Special Education Technician

NATURE OF THE WORK:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, participate in the development of intervention plans;
- Provide one-on-one support to students;
- Provide student support via the SAAC Resource Hub (drop-in, workshops, training, etc);
- Record observations and follow-up with appropriate personnel;
- Formulate action plans in collaboration with students, provide feedback, and develop strategies for behaviour management and for academic success;
- Use intervention techniques to assist students in crisis;
- Adapt and develop tools and techniques to support students in their learning;
- Meet with students to monitor their progress and if necessary, provide assistance;
- Support students in other areas in relation to accessing and using their accommodations;
- Provide exam related support (invigilation, scribe, crisis, etc.) ;
- Provide relevant documentation and referrals;
- Meet and collaborate with teachers in order to sensitize and to inform them about specific cases and reasonable accommodations;
- Meet and communicate with internal and external service providers and family members in order to coordinate and clarify support;
- Use information technology and communication tools available to perform various tasks;
- Perform other related tasks.
**Requirements**:
- QUALIFICATIONS:
To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or, a diploma or an attestation of studies
which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
CONDITIONS:
- Proven knowledge and ability to assess, identify and interpret student needs based on their perceived academic or physical limitations
- Proven knowledge and ability to determine and justify specific support or accommodations and how to implement them in an IEP and/or action plan
- Proven knowledge and ability to develop, work with and use strategy instruction and support techniques for individuals with various limitations
- Ability to multi-task and troubleshoot issues as they arise while using sound judgment in decision making
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
- Advanced oral and written English communication skills
- Intermediate oral and written French communication skills
- Intermediate levels of Word and Excel skills
