**Position Information**:
The Dialysis Technician plays a key role in the Satellite Dialysis Centre by supporting the Interdisciplinary Team so they can use their time more effectively to provide direct patient care.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Prepare the hemodialysis machine for patient use including the operation of the water system (off and on)
2. Identify components of the hemodialysis machine and is knowledgeable and proficient in the preparation, cleaning and maintenance of the hemodialysis machine, including various types of dialysers, dialysate concentrates and testing of alarm systems
3. Responsible to ensure accuracy of the patient prescriptions for current hemodialysis orders regarding machine set up for treatments.
4. Assist in appropriate activities for the day
- to
- day functioning of the Unit as required preparing dialysis supplies for subsequent patient treatment
5. Monitor, organize and restock supply carts including manual lifting

Qualifications:

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Dialysis Technician Assistant Certificate mandatory.
- One year Dialysis Technician experience within past two years
- Knowledge of dialysis therapy and equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control procedures.
- Current computer skills.
- Current CPR certification.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to be flexible in availability for work to meet departmental needs.
- Must be physically able to perform the normal duties of the job.
- Satisfactory vulnerable person’s sector criminal background check.
- Documented commitment to continuing education through inservice, staff meetings and self-motivated learning.
- Excellent communication and customer relation skills.
