**Job Title**: Recreation Coordinator, Adult Day Program

**Reports to**: Manager, Adult Day Program

:
The Recreation Coordinator assesses, develops and coordinates the delivery of social, recreational and therapeutic programs consistent with the needs, interests and abilities of clients in the program. The Coordinator respects and promotes the dignity and individuality of each client by recognizing them as individuals with unique cultural, spiritual, and psycho-social needs.

**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Client Services**
- Accountable for safety and security of clients while attending program
- Builds trusting relationships with clients and caregivers
- Must be able to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, students, volunteers, residents and families
- Develops and maintains individual program plans for clients
- Develops and implements new programs/activities/outings and modifies existing ones to meet care plan goals and objectives of clients
- Collaborates with team to develop care plan goals and follows-up every 6 months to ensure objectives are achieved
- Demonstrates ability and skills in facilitating activation programs and engaging clients in programs
- Demonstrates ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.
- Guides and directs front line staff in implementing the planned social and recreational activities as appropriate
- Able to resolve behavioral issues.
- Assists with educating and guiding volunteers and students to understand how to support and effectively communicate with clients who have dementia or cognitive impairment
- Monitor clients’ nutritional diets (e.g. health assessment of clients who are diabetic or have allergic reactions) and assists in preparing and organizing meals/snacks

**Information/Data Management**
- Completes required documentation as per program policies
- Maintains client confidentiality as per organization policies
- Follows information and data management policies of the organization

**Quality Management**
- Stays current on best practices with respect to programming and program implementation
- Works with the focus of quality care and programming
- In conjunction with the Manager, uses the organization’s ethical framework for decision making on difficult situations and decisions

**Health and Safety**
- Follows policies regarding Occupational Health and Safety
- Knowledge of applicable governing legislation, including WHMIS, fire safety universal precautions, First Aid and CPR as applicable

**Continuous Learning and Development**
- Attends courses, workshops or seminars that are related to the goals or objectives of the ADP program as identified and approved by Manager or designate
- Demonstrates initiative

**Other Duties as Assigned**
- Assist clients with personal hygiene and toileting when necessary
- Able to assist clients from sit to stand positions
- Provide reminders for medications to clients as necessary
- Escort clients on AM or PM transportation as per assigned schedule
- Perform cleaning (sweeping, mopping), sanitizing, and garbage disposal duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager

**COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS**:
**Functional Skills**
- Ability to interact effectively with staff, clients and external professionals at the level required by the agency
- Ability to organize, manage and prioritize work in an efficient manner and meet deadlines
- Ability to support and work co-operatively with all team members and achieve the goals and objectives of the agency
- Ability to resolve problems and concerns of staff, clients, caregivers and other issues affecting the effective operation of the agency
- Is open to feedback and constructive criticism

**Education and Training**
- Degree or diploma in recreation and leisure studies or recreation therapy
- Knowledge in Gerontology, ABI, DD and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias

**Certification Required**
- CPR/First Aid
