Research Assistant, Medical Sciences

Reporting to Dr. Simon Lees, the purpose of this internship is to provide a high level of training that will enable the research assistant/intern to contribute to the funded research project “Effects of Ultra-Low Dose Radiation on Biological Systems”-NSERC CRD.
The assistant/intern will receive training in various state-of-the-art research techniques at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University. The assistant/intern will also gain valuable experience in project management, team coordination, and experimental research methodologies.
This position is covered by the Terms and Conditions of the OPSEU Unit 677 Collective Agreement (Unit 2). A copy is available on the NOSM University website.
**Responsibilities**:
Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinates and conducts routine quantitative research experiments in support of Effects of Ultra-Low Dose Radiation on Biological Systems by interpreting, recording and/or coding data or observations, and identifying and conducting sample tests using standardized techniques;
- Prepare equipment, solutions, and materials for use in the laboratory;
- Participates in data gathering, compilation and presentation for reports;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- A University degree or a Master of Science degree in biology, biochemistry, applied biomolecular science, chemistry, microbiology, biotechnology or physiology from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
**CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY**
- Must have a valid G license to drive in Ontario
- Must live in or be willing to relocate to Thunder Bay, Ontario

- Input and maintain data records with a high degree of accuracy;

**Language**:
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
