**The Role: Housing Support Worker**
Home Fire is a scattered-site, housing-first program for Indigenous identifying youth ages 16 to 24 who are experiencing homelessness. With a focus on harm reduction and land-based learning, the Housing Support Worker creates a space for youth to effectively deal with issues surrounding homelessness, explore healing from intergenerational trauma, reconcile with natural supports, and strengthen community connections.
**Key Tasks & Responsibilities**
- Manage an assigned case load of 7-8 clients.
- Help clients attain and maintain housing, while working on goals such as life skills, employment skills, building community.
- Provide individual coaching, support and outreach to Indigenous youth who are at risk of being homelessness and/or sexually exploitation.
- Support Indigenous youth with system navigation including connecting youth to internal and external Indigenous resources, Elders, ceremonies and cultural events.
- Integration of traditional knowledge and ways of knowing into your work with program youth.
- Intervening and supporting youth through crisis situations as they occur.
- Help youth transition to heathier lifestyles by providing 1 to 1 support to accessing community services and natural supports.
- Acting as a liaison as needed between families, social workers, school representatives, doctors and other professionals involved with the youth.
- Assist youth in developing and implementing goal plans.
- Complete a variety of assessments with youth and documentation surrounding casework, goal planning and Critical Incident Reporting.
**Knowledge & Skills Expectations**
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in the social sciences or human services field. Equivalent combination of education, experience and training will be considered.
- Minimum 2 years of direct work experience with vulnerable populations.
- Understanding of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and housing barriers.
- Knowledge of paralleling western and Indigenous practices.
- External connection to Indigenous community in Calgary and surrounding areas.
- Knowledge of Foyer Model’s Philosophy and Operations, Housing First for Youth, and Harm Reduction Models.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Valid Class 5 Driver's License and Drivers Abstract.
- Reliable vehicle as this position requires you to transport youth.
- Current First Aid and CPR Training - Level C.
- Able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check
**Reporting Relationship**
This position reports to the Program Manager of Home Fire.
