**Employment Opportunity: Wholistic Community Wellness Navigator** **Location**:Halifax, NS **Salary Range**:$60,000 annual salary **Employment Term**:November 2025-March 31, 2026 (possibility of renewal) Full-time hours, 35 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work. **Reports To**: Service Navigator Coordinator **General Description**: The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax/Kjipuktuk and is looking for **One (1) Wholistic Community Wellness Navigator.** The Wholistic Community Wellness Navigator (WCWN) is responsible for working with clients who enter the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre to help identify their needs. The WCWN will provide all new MNFC clientele/community members with general MNFC program and resource information and provide informal needs assessments to identify which programs and services the client should be referred to. **Key Responsibilities**:
- Complete informal needs assessments with clients to identify their needs in a culturally appropriate, and relational way and then connect them to the appropriate MNFC programs and supports
- Coordinate the MNFC food bank; Organize donations, create client/staff procedures, provide clients with supervised access, assemble food kits for community, maintain cleanliness and ensure products aren’t past the best before date
- Work collaboratively with the reception team as the first points of contact at the MNFC, and provide additional reception coverage when necessary
- Complete monthly reporting requirements workplan
- Keep an organized filing system of all relevant program and client documentation.
- Support interdepartmental staff by ensuring that referrals of client/community members are communicated in a positive, respectful manner
- Work collaboratively with interdepartmental staff to facilitate access to current resources and services. (housing, harm reduction services, justice, family resources, education/ training, employment, social supports & cultural/ traditional supports (elders, ceremony)
- Provide short-term problem-solving support by identifying and accessing referrals/ supports as needed
- Inform clients of all programs and services offered by the MNFC and external programs and supports available to meet their needs
- Assist in defusing situations by using conflict resolution skills and de-escalation techniques
- Participate in agency responsibilities including: training opportunities, staff meetings, committee representation, etc.
- May perform other related duties as required
**Qualifications & Experience;**
- Must have a diploma/ certification or equivalent in Social Services/ Community Service Workers
- Post-secondary education or relevant related experience will also be considered
- Must have at least two years’ experience delivering community-based programs
- Excellent interpersonal skills; Drive and initiative to motivate clients/community members to succeed and work towards their goals.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written)
- Must have Mental Health First Aid, ASIST
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of Indigenous peoples, cultures, and history to better support MNFC community members and understand their unique needs and experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, Outlook, Access, Power Point)
- Prior data entry experience considered an asset
- Must provide a valid background & vulnerable sector check
- Indigenous ancestry is considered an asset for this position, please self identify
