Director, Planning

**General Purpose**

Responsible for the management of Materials, Planning, and Logistics required for the On Time & In Full Delivery of Corrugated orders while ensuring efficient manufacturing operations:

- Materials - roll ordering, material movement, warehousing
- Planning - scheduling of orders, capacity management and planning, order booking, variation management (breakdowns, peaks, slow season, summer/winter builds)
- Logistics - warehouse inventory levels, stock programs, efficient trailer utilization

**Materials Duties**
- Work with mill scheduling to ensure rolls received satisfy customer demand not historical usage including special roll requirements like those for growers customers, heavy grades, and heavy white top
- Track, monitor, and ensure adequate movement into and out of the roll warehouses to maintain safe and necessary inventory levels at the four box plants
- Track, monitor, and ensure adequate usage of rolls based on roll width paying particular attention not to let narrow roll inventory grow
- Maintenance of the Corrugated Board Grade ECT Combinations

**Planning Duties**
- Balancing order booking, run capacity, production schedules, warehouse capacity, and shipping capability to maximize both OTIF performance and operational efficiencies:

- Development and management of the Live Online order booking tool for customer service (feeds available, quantity of orders, PMs, buffers, balance, etc.)
- Establishing machine capacity baselines
- Decide when overtime, shutdowns, or crewing changes are needed
- Maintaining warehouse capacities within target range
- Leveling daily shipping volumes to match available resources
- Prevent overbooking by looking forward then moving orders to re-establish balance as required. Ensuring level loading of the right orders between all 5 box plants
- Long term capacity planning to ensure balance loading & assist capital investment decisions
- Management of a strong planning team including 2 planners at each of the large box plants, a senior group planner, and a centralized expeditor. Daily team calls to instill a centralized mentality and cohesive network
- Scheduling of orders in an efficient manner for the corrugator and converting departments running out of town orders earlier than local orders to allow longer shipping requirements
- Enforcing the 2 day fixed schedule through the Insert & Expedite Guideline while striving to maintain desired lead times
- Stock order management to ensure capacity is set aside with zero stock outs and avoid warehouse overcrowding. Monthly monitoring and adjusting of the min/max and run quantities. Ensuring replenishment orders are pre-booked at least 2 months in advanced, balanced each day to ensure even daily shipping/loading
- Preparation for seasonality including a winter build and summer peak requiring farm outs and use of alternate resources
- Work closely with and communicate constantly with the sales management regarding lead times, run performance, capacity, and new business
- During machine breakdowns, minimize the impact on delivery performance and cost through strategic decision making involving transferring orders between the network or ordering in sheets from both internal and external suppliers
- Plan and preparation of the specs and associated tooling for new machinery
- Work with IT to resolve software related issues with CTI & Amtech

**Logistics Duties**
- Ensure On Time & In Full delivery of all orders each day
- Consolidating orders to run in as few plants as possible to minimize shipping costs
- Controlling automatically scheduled overrun percentages to prevent warehouse overcrowding
