**ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY**:
As a member of the Youth Resource Centre, the Team Lead assists the Program Manager in both the daily operation and development of the program. The Team Lead assists with crisis intervention, youth intake and case planning as well as basic needs service provision to vulnerable youth and young adults in an emergency shelter setting from a person-centred, non-judgmental, trauma-informed, strength based philosophy.
The Team Lead ensures the Youth Resource Centre staff carry out all youth-centred responsibilities within a trauma and resiliency-informed framework. Collaborates across various systems to ensure that outcomes are in the best interest of the youth and align with the overall mission and purpose of the program. The Team Lead also promotes The Link's Therapeutic Model of Care and establishes collaborative and trusting relationships. Providing culturally competent services and ensuring client safety, choice and control are priorities of The Link.
**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**: of the Team Lead include, but are not limited to:
Youth Care:
- Fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of the program’s Youth Care Practitioner;
- Provides 24-hour supervision of clients;
- Provide holistic mental, emotional, physical and spiritual support based on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel;
- Perform shelter intakes, assessments and registration duties;
- Acts as a healthy role model and ensures that the needs of the youth are the primary focus;
- Performs various administrative duties related to the care of the youth staying in the shelter;
- Supervise and provide service and basic needs care to youth;
- Perform general facility tasks, cleaning and cooking chores and routines;
- Attends staff meetings and training as required;
- Works in collaboration with other teams and external service providers;
- Occasionally takes on an in-charge role, overseeing the shifts and providing direction when needed in the absence of other leadership
Program Leadership:
- Provides vacation and other time off coverage for the Program Manager;
- Provides on-call coverage as required;
- Completes administrative duties, as assigned by the Program Manager, these duties may include:
- Assists with interviewing and hiring of Youth Care Workers;
- Orientates new staff;
- Trains Relief/Casual Youth Care Practitioners;
- Coordinates the distribution of information;
- Schedules meetings and also schedules any home maintenance;
- Performs financial and purchasing responsibilities, such as replenishing program supplies;
- Participates in on-going professional development to increase knowledge in the field and increase skill level to continue meeting developing employment needs;
- Supports the program to reflect, The Link: Youth and Family Supports agency and Human Resource policies and program protocols;
- Represents the program and the organization in a professional manner.
**EXPERIENCE**
- Two to three years of related experience with at-risk youth
- Prior leadership experience is an asset, but not required
**EDUCATION**
- Post-secondary degree in Human Services or a combination of education and experience may be considered
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
Essential:
- Knowledge of trauma and resilience informed care;
- Strong counseling skills and experience in behavior management;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C;
- Satisfactory RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (check completed within 3 months)
- A clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, (check completed within 3 months);
- Willingness to obtain necessary training as per agency training policy
Preferred:
- ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) preferred or willingness to obtain;
- NVCI Certificate (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training) preferred or willingness to obtain;
- Knowledge of Indigenous languages and cultures would be considered an asset
