The position of Makerspace Assistant is responsible to train and assist members on the use of Makerspace equipment and software. They are also responsible to plan, organize and conduct makerspace programming and perform other instructional activities (public and co-learning among peers).
**What You’ll Do**
- Instructs members in the use of all makerspace equipment, software and furnishings, for users with all skill levels. Writes instructional guides for equipment and software related to the Makerspace as requested.
- Answers members’ questions in person, by telephone or by internet:
- General Inquiries.
- Catalogue search and use of available reference tools.
- Readers Advisory including assisting members to find resources using the library catalogue, electronic databases and the internet.
- Instructs members in the use of computers and/or software for users with all skill levels.
- Checks out all circulating library materials.
- Registers new members and updates membership cards and certifications.
- Schedules members in the makerspace and adjoining classroom activities.
- Provides periodic inventorying of tools, supplies and materials.
- Responsible for addressing inappropriate or disruptive behaviour of members according to established procedures.
- Promotes Cambridge Public Library and use of its services by conducting tours, orienting new members to the facility and writing website and magazine content as requested.
- Plans, organizes and conducts Makerspace programming and tours and assists with or conducts other programs or events as requested.
- Makes recommendations regarding the selection, acquisition, installation and implementation of Makerspace equipment, furnishings and software. Provides general troubleshooting and required maintenance of same items.
- Makes recommendations leading to the development of Makerspace policies and procedures.
- Covers for other building staff in their absence, including Youth Services customer service, programming/ events/ school visits for ages 0-18.
- Opens and closes building when required and assists with building security when scheduled.
**What You Bring**
To be qualified for and successful in the role, you should have:
- **Required**:
- An Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) completion
- **Required** - One (1) year prior related experience working in a makerspace or equivalent
- **Required** - One (1) year Experience working in a service environment
- **Required** - Demonstrated experience with hand tools
- **Preferred** - Experience performing maintenance of makerspace equipment, software and furnishings, in a work environment
- **Preferred** - Experience working with youth

**Wage**: $27.00 per hour (Level 5 in our salary grid).
**Hours of Work**: 39 hours in a two-week period in the Fall / Winter / Spring, and 34.75 hours in a two-week period between Victoria Day to the end of Summer.
**Schedule**: Working various day, evening, and weekend shifts
**Week 1**

Tuesday 1:30pm - 5:30pm (4 hours)
Wednesday OFF
Thursday 12:30pm - 8:30pm (7 hours)*
Friday OFF
Saturday 10:00am - 2:00pm (4 hours)
Sunday 12:45pm - 5:00pm (4.25 hours)
**Week 2**
Monday 9:45am - 5:30pm (6.75 hours)
Tuesday 1:30pm - 5:30pm (4 hours)
Wednesday OFF
Thursday 12:30pm - 8:30pm (7 hours)*
Friday OFF
Saturday OFF
Sunday OFF
