Sterile Processing Technician

The PEI Vision Surgical Centre is a fast-paced surgical environment where cataract surgery will be performed in a clinic setting. As a member of a cohesive team, the Centre is looking for employees who are flexible, reliable and able to complete duties related to decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, inspection, and function testing of surgical instruments. The Technician will be required to adhere to CSA professional standards, manufacturer’s instructions and facility policies and procedures.
**Duties include but not limited to**:
- Work independently and adhere to safe work practices, safety guidelines and CSA Standards;
- Safely operate equipment i.e. sterilizers, instrument disinfectors, washers, and other reprocessing equipment as required;
- Use appropriate cleaning detergents, disinfectants or enzymatic solutions for the various instruments;
- Disassemble surgical instruments for cleaning and reassembling for sterilization;
- Prepare, package and sterilize instrument trays in accordance with aseptic and sterile technique and CSA Standards;
- Monitor equipment print-outs, identify potential problems, and effectively troubleshoot and resolve system alarms and equipment failures;
- Initiate product recall if a sterilization failure has occurred;
- Ensure quality control measures are adhered to ensure accreditation standards are followed;
- Maintain sterilization records which track that sterilization parameters have been achieved;
- Assist with patient care related duties as requested;
- Other related duties as required.
**Qualifications**: Applicants must have successfully completed an accredited Sterile Processing Technician Program. Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift moderate to heavy equipment. Successful applicants must have a good attendance record and are dependable. Applicants must have knowledgeable in sterile processing and have current experience in the duties related the position.
**Hours of work**: 37.5 hours per week with rotating day shifts. Flexible work hours will be required to meet operational demands, and weekly work hours will be adjusted based on the Employer’s specifications.

Pay: $24.09-$25.13 per hour
