Community Living Ontario is a not-for-profit, provincial confederation, which advocates for, promotes, and facilitates the full participation, inclusion and citizenship of people who have an intellectual disability. We are a progressive leader in the developmental services sector, representing approximately 80,000 individuals and families, through over 100 member organizations.
About the Role:
Community Living Ontario is seeking a dynamic, energetic, self-motivated individual who will oversee the development of community initiatives, events and programs, which includes a framework of engagement for families who have loved ones with an intellectual disability, youth with and without a disability and community members.
This role focuses on developing leadership and building community connections with families, youth and adult allies in their communities. The Coordinator must ensure all stakeholders are engaged in building a community that embraces a culture of equity and access for people with disabilities.
Reporting to the Director of Inclusion Initiatives, the Community Engagement Coordinator will enable, develop and maintain the expansion of projects and partnerships with schools, youth, family groups, community organizations, and local Community Living Associations across the province of Ontario. The Community Engagement Coordinator will recruit and collaborate with various stakeholders and support family and youth leaders to change the dialogue of how institutions and community organizations engage with families who have loved ones with an intellectual disability.
Key responsibilities:
- Foster existing and build new relationships with families, youth and adult allies across the province of Ontario
- Manage timely communication and facilitate workshops with families and youth across Ontario
- Monitor community activities and maintain a calendar of events to promote awareness of organization’s mission
- Work towards increasing effective outreach to potential community organization partnerships
- Promote campaigns and workshops for families, youth and allies in schools and community
- Evaluate the impact of CLO’s work in the schools and community by developing and creating monthly reports for management
- Write internal communications, documents, project briefs, handouts, and reports to inform management of important events and updates in the community
- Liaise with families, youth and community leaders to identify community needs and mobilize resources to meet those needs
- Establish, build and regularly maintain the database for families, youth, adult allies, and community partners
- Plan, lead and coordinate events and conferences for various initiatives hosted by the Inclusion Initiatives department
- Review and proofread print materials created by others and assist in the preparation of manuals, guidebooks, reports, and external communications
- Write grant proposals including budgets and monitor results of approved projects
- This position will be the main contact for workshops and activities in the Inclusion Initiatives department.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Degree in social work, education or related discipline
- Experience working effectively with families and youth, and understanding the barriers to full inclusion for people with an intellectual disability
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with families, youth, volunteers, staff members, and community service partners
- Ability to manage funding and adhere to reporting timelines
- Highly effective skills in project management, administration and budget monitoring as related to project implementation
- Strong outreach, organizational, multitasking and teamwork skills
- Ability to work together with families who have a loved one with an intellectual disability, and youth, with and without disabilities
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage variable workloads
- Exemplary proof reading and copy-editing skills
- Superior presentation and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail in evaluating the completion of various phases of a project
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and social media
- Ability to speak any additional language is considered an asset
Working Conditions:
- Full time 37.5 hours per week.
- Travel across Ontario will be required. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable
vehicle and be willing to travel to project sites as necessary.
- Ability to attend and conduct meetings and presentations, both online and in-person.
- Flexible work environment including Toronto office, home office and in various venues across Ontario as required from time to time.
- Flexibility is required based on deadlines and requirements. Occasional evening and weekend work required.
