Store Associate/cashier

The General Store Cashier’s primary job is to assist customers with in-store sales and delivering the best possible customer service. Additional duties include ringing up sales, bagging items, performing price checks, collecting payment and giving appropriate change back. A key component of the job is promoting our merchandise and finding upselling opportunities to generate increased revenue. The cashier is responsible for accurate ‘end of day’ cash out process, maintaining receipts, procedure for “in-house” purchases and awarding applicable associate and “locals” discounts.

**Responsibilities**
- Greet customers/guests when entering or leaving the store, always thanking them for their business.
- Handle cash, debit, and credit card transactions accurately for both external and internal customers
- Scan goods, collect payments, ensuring pricing is correct.
- Issue change, receipts, and refunds when necessary
- Count money at beginning of shift float ensuring correct amount.
- Perform restocking duties periodically throughout shift, organizing disheveled racks/shelves and keep

store aisles free and clear of extra stock, boxes, ladders and debris if left unattended.
- Dust shelves and product as needed.
- Follow procedures for closing at the end of shift, removing garbage, turning off display lights and locking outdoor ice machine.
- Make sales referrals, cross-sell products and/or introduce new ones.
- Resolve customer complaints and if unable to do so, seek your supervisor or manager.
- Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas, including floors, ensuring garbage, food and drinks are wiped up
- Accountable for responsibly selling alcoholic beverages.
- Responsible for helping with monthly and end of season inventories.
- Knowledgeable of Banff Park and general Alberta geography, providing customers with directions or maps where necessary.
- Must be familiar with The Crossing services, venues, hours of operation, etc.
- Make a point of learning the consignment sales representatives and their products.
- Safe food handling procedures followed when serving/selling food items.
- Be comfortable with opening and closing procedures.

**Skills/Qualifications**
- Excellent customer service skills
- Fluent English skills (oral, written and read)
- Grade 12 graduate or equivalent (GED)
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods.
- Must be able to reach, bend, kneel, stretch, and lift heavy items periodically.
- PROSERVE certification
- Works well under pressure
- A team player or work well independently.
- Willing to work shift work, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Previous retail experience preferred but not necessary as we train associates.
