**Academic Lead Clinical Education and Community Affairs**:
The Master of Physical Therapy program provides many benefits to the health care system provincially and nationally. As the only Physical Therapy academic organization in Saskatchewan, the School provides support for growth and development of the practice of PT through research and education. We work closely with various stakeholders, recognizing that our relationship with community is one of the major strengths of our Program.
**Primary Purpose**: The Academic Lead Clinical Education and Community Affairs (ALCECA) provides leadership, supports strategic planning, oversees clinical education operations, participates in components of clinical education teaching within the MPT program, enhances School of Rehabilitation Science (SRS) external relationships to support clinical education and helps to advance community collaboration.
**Nature of Work**: The primary scope associated with this position are in the areas of personnel management, MPT clinical education programming (academic, student experience), external relations, and communication. Reporting to the Director of School of Rehabilitation Science, Master of Physical Therapy (MPT), the ALCECA works closely with the SRS faculty, staff and students; other College of Medicine and Health Science Colleges; and the Saskatchewan Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation clinical community. The ALCECA is responsible for providing leadership for clinical education across the province and presents as an outstanding ambassador for the SRS. A high level of independence, responsibility, professionalism and accountability are necessary.
**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:
Strategic Planning
- Ensures clinical education planning, implementation and evaluation meets national standards and is aligned with and supports the SRS mission and vision
- Participates in MPT curriculum planning
- Identifies strategic opportunities for SRS, including initiatives to enhance community partnerships, financial sustainability and collaboration
PT and Rehabilitation Academic Clinical Program Administration
- Is a member of and contributes to the business of the MPT Academic Affairs Committee, including the monitoring of MPT student academic performance, policy development and review.
- Works closely with the MPT Director, assists with the oversight of SRS Access and Equity Accommodation Teams and implementation of related policies/procedures
- Provides leadership to related clinical education committees and working groups within the SRS
- Participates in MPT program planning and delivery of high quality MPT program with special emphasis on ensuring integration of clinical education throughout the program and maximizing resources and expertise
- Identifies trends and challenges in clinical education environment and plans and acts accordingly
- Leads needs assessments and works with staff and faculty in revision of clinical education and interprofessional education programming
- Ensures robust evaluation systems are in place to support all components of clinical education programming
- Provides leadership and contributes to high quality accreditation processes and documents; identifies and supports SRS evaluation activities and monitors clinical education outcomes
People and Leadership
- Works with the SRS leadership, faculty, staff and students to ensure healthy work and learning environments
- Contributes to high quality needs assessment and planning for SRS clinical education staffing
- Consults with external communities ensuring appropriate liaisons with SRS senior leadership
- Supervises Clinical Education staff, providing regular performance feedback, in consultation with the Director of the SRS and others as appropriate
- Collaborates with clinical education staff to advance professional development and support a high functioning clinical education unit
- Collaborates with SRS faculty to achieve high quality academic programming and advance professional practice in the community
- Works with faculty and staff to support high quality communication and professional development to advance MPT clinical preceptor expertise and competencies
- Promotes, supports and looks for recognition for clinicians involved in high quality outreach activities
- Creates and maintains positive and professional relationships with internal and external partners
Financial and Resource Management
- Identifies clinical education resource requirements to support current and long term growth and sustainability of the MPT program
- Ensures clinical education funding is managed in accordance with University, College, SRS practices and policies
- Provides leadership in the pursuit of partnerships to support clinical education and community engagement in SRS
Risk Management
- Ensures high standards with respect to health and safety of students and faculty
- Incorporates the identification, assessment, and management of risks in the planning processes
