**Project Officer - Summer Student**
**Main Projects**:Canada in the Classroom Virtual Reality Project /Research Project/Communications and Outreach**
Experiences Canada is a national charitable organization dedicated to opening young people’s minds and involving them in a broader world. We do this by facilitating experiential learning opportunities such as youth forums, online courses, travel and exchanges.
We seek several summer students to provide project and outreach support, fundraising research, and communications assistance to support the marketing and development activities of the organization.
**The Opportunity**
**Virtual Reality Project**
Experiences Canada is partnering with Meta (formerly Facebook) and Canadian Geographic to bring Canada to high school youth via Virtual Reality (VR) technology enabling these youth to explore our incredible country without leaving their classrooms or communities.
Project Officers will report directly to the Director of Programs who will provide support with general direction, goal setting, and prioritization of tasks. You will also participate in regular team meetings, project reporting and presentations. You will be working in a small, fast-paced virtual environment learning adaptability while working both independently on assignments and in a team context around organizational and project management tasks. This is a position that involves communication and interaction with high school age youth, teachers, community leaders and a range of stakeholders that will be under the guidance of the Director of Programs.
Selected Project Officers will work collaboratively on the VR project, travel together and co-present to schools in the Ottawa region. Experiences Canada is working with Meta to organize VR training in Montreal for Project Coordinators.
**Educational Resources**
Working with the team that manages the youth exchanges, the Project Coordinator will undertake a range of tasks including developing a database of local schools and youth community organizations and distributing marketing and other promotional materials. Some of the other tasks may include creating:
Fun, interactive video’s showcasing the community
Vlogs on how to access and complete online modules
**Communications**
There are a wide range of activities undertaken under Communications that support the projects Experiences Canada delivers. Project Coordinators will be helping to promote the VR project and youth exchanges, edit/create promotional videos, support social media content and more.
**Research**
Project Officers will play an important role by researching online for various project areas including helping Experiences Canada identify alumni with a goal of inviting them to reconnect with the charity. This will involve database research (no special training is required), and alumni outreach and communications. Coordinators will be provided with scripting for the outreach. Project Coordinators may also assist with a range of other online research tasks including exploring government of Canada website for policy and funding streams on a range of topics from diversity, equity and inclusion to climate change and mental health.
Required Qualifications:
Successful applicants must
- Be able to work from a virtual (home) office with own computer, internet, phone
- Have a valid driver's license
- Have no criminal record and be able to pass a vulnerable sector check
- Be capable of lifting boxes and able to stand for up to a few hours when a VR project is in progress (likely in a gymnasium helping participants).
**Required Skills & Experience**:
- Strong organization, communication and presentation skills
- Experience in coordinating multiple events or projects with various deadlines, clients and across teams
- Strong work ethic, proactive and able to manage time efficiently while working remotely
- Comfortable presenting to youth in a high school or similar setting
- Experience working with others in a team environment Strong research skills
- Confident and comfortable working with IT and technology (social media, different software etc.)
**Desired Skills & Experience**
- Experience using VR headsets or facilitating VR experiences
- Bilingual
- Video / audio editing experience
- Database experience (Salesforce)

Experiences Canada Headquarters: 2148 Carling Avenue suite 202, Ottawa ON K2A 1H1.
A minimum of 2 days per week in the office is expected.
**Eligibility**:
All applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
