- CBC Radio is hiring two Producers to work for Network Talk. Both positions will be assigned to The Sunday Magazine. One producer role is permanent, the other is a one-year contract.

**The Program**
- The Sunday Magazine is a live current affairs radio program that covers the people and events Canadians want to learn more about, demonstrating a wide tonal range, and the ability to dig deeper into the issues listeners care about most.
- The program is relevant and responsive, with the ability to update segments as events unfold. It is a mix of long-form, in-depth interviews, music and audio treatments, and a destination for extended conversations with big thinkers and luminaries in the fields of art, culture, politics and more.
- The program also produces compelling digital and social media presentations of stories and a podcast.

**Your Role**
- Working under the direction and supervision of the Executive and Senior Producers, you are an experienced journalist with exceptional critical thinking skills, a diverse range of interests, and impeccable judgment in pitching and sourcing stories for the show.
- Your daily tasks include pitching and producing stories, editing audio elements and creating clear focussed scripts for interviews. You will be required on occasion to gather audio in the field. You will sometimes be required to work overtime and may be assigned to work on weekends to respond to breaking news or evolving stories.
- You demonstrate a clear understanding of the mandate of the program and what makes a strong segment on the show as well as grasping how all of the elements fit together to create a program.
- You are an excellent generator of story ideas, and an exemplary chaser.
- You are a strong writer and editor, with the ability to collect, edit and incorporate sound into a segment.
- You understand and have experience crafting the arc of long-form interviews and tape segments.
- You have strong social media and digital skills.
- You have a deep understanding and appreciation of diversity of perspective, opinion and experience, which is reflected in your pitches and guest selection.
- Along with your excellent communication skills, and exceptional creativity, you are a committed team player.
- Finally, you have full knowledge of the Journalistic Standards and Practices of CBC and that all your work is governed by these policies.

**Key Tasks**:
- Generate weekly story ideas, participate in pitch meetings, creatively assess and build on the ideas of others.-
- Generate clear focus statements for your ideas and follow through on delivering guests, scripts and content.-
- Energetically and creatively research and track down the best possible guests on each story as assigned.-
- Creatively suggest and gather audio elements to enhance the audience’s engagement and understanding of a segment.-
- Write clear, compelling introductions and focused question lines to build a narrative arc to interviews.-
- Change and/or update assignments quickly as needed.-
- Ensure that stories, guests and programming reflect contemporary Canada - with special focus on reflecting people who belong to visible minorities,
- ** I**ndigenous people and people with disabilities.-
- Work collaboratively with other producers on the team.-
- Meet daily deadlines with guest requirements and scripts.-
- Suggest and provide content for digital treatments of stories.-
- Contribute to ongoing development of the program-
- Train as backup studio director for the live program.-
- A combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from university or college plus five to seven years of practical and relevant experience in journalism, including interviewing and writing for broadcast.-
- A keen interest and ongoing expertise in news and current events, with a demonstrated ability to respond to breaking or changing news.-
- Innovative in approach to pitching and sourcing story ideas.-
- Experience directing the work of others, especially in a live studio setting - or a commitment to learn and add this skillset to your toolkit.-
- Strong writer, with ability or willingness to learn how to
