**Job Description**:
The Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Program is one of fourteen in the province of Ontario. RVH is seeking an **Indigenous Coordinator** with lived experience to join the organization at a time of growth and transition. In this context, lived experience means First Nations, Métis and Inuit identification, based on their experiences, kin relations, community and/or land ties. This position is Temporary Full-Time, with possible extension or may become permanent.
The** Indigenous Coordinator **role is a Cancer Care Ontario supported position that aims to build capacity within Indigenous communities through an empowerment and partnership model to address the unique cancer care needs of First Nation, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) peoples. This role has been implemented across several of Ontario’s Regional Cancer Programs (RCP) with the goal of improving access to culturally safe service delivery for Indigenous community members throughout the cancer journey. The project coordinator works to ensure the development and sustainability of a respectful bi-lateral relationship with Indigenous community partners through education initiatives and systems level policy driven change management. The Indigenous Project Coordinator will contribute to carrying out the priorities set out in CCO’s Indigenous Cancer Strategy and will be foundational to ongoing efforts to reduce health inequities faced by FNMI peoples. As the Indigenous Project Coordinator, you will directly support the work of the Regional Cancer Program in the successful implementation of the North Simcoe Muskoka (NSM) Regional Indigenous Cancer Plan, and Cancer Care Ontario’s Indigenous Cancer Strategy. Within this context, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing the development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives relevant to improving the cancer journey with, and for, First Nation, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) peoples in the NSM Region.
**Qualifications**:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent in the following areas: Health, Social Sciences, Education and Indigenous Studies. A Masters degree is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing best practice in relationship development with FNMI community partners
- Experience working with First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities and organizations in NSM
- Experience leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of system-level projects
- Certification the effects of Intergenerational trauma and trauma-informed approaches to care, and best practice in relationship development
- Capacity to write funding proposals, create work plans and establish community-based advisory groups
- Expertise to create and facilitate effective presentations and education initiatives to the public and HCPs.

- Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and consultative
- Understanding of First Nation, Métis and Inuit history, culture, health determinants, and perspectives on health and well-being
- Strong insight into the importance of Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples
- Working knowledge of local FNMI governance systems, protocols, organizations, communities and territories
- Understanding of the cancer journey as it relates to FNIM people
- Demonstrated ability to integrate culture into project deliverables and adapt Western perspectives of health and education to align with Indigenous understandings of health and wellness
