Certain cities may be located in distant or remote areas in Ontario and may not be accessible by public transit. Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation. **What can I expect to do in this role?**: **Work Description** As a Laboratory Assistant, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities: - Collect trace evidence samples for analysis. - Work with scientists and technologists to prepare, analyze, and/or sort survey samples and standards, using various types of analytical instrumentation. - Prepare samples for shipping/distribution to assigned destinations/agencies/workstations. - Perform data entry and/or updating records (e.g. in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)). - Work safely with equipment and chemical products, and maintain all work areas in a safe, neat, and clean condition, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) regulations and requirements. - Provide customer service assistance by responding to public and/or internal inquiries. - Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage daily assigned work. **Note**: Position may require somephysical activity, including bending and twisting, lifting and carrying weighted items, operating forklifts and other lifting devices in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety Regulations. **How do I qualify?**: **Mandatory**: You must meet **all** eligibility criteria by the first day of employment (contracts begin between May and July): - **Age**: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. There is no maximum age limit. - ** Residency**: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment. - ** Work Status**: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN) for the full duration of your summer employment. **Communication and Interpersonal Skills**: **Technical Skills and Knowledge**: - You sort samples safely to ensure they are distributed/delivered correctly. - You input data accurately and generate reports, paying close attention to detail. **Analytical and Organizational Skills**: - You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize, and prioritize your work to meet competing deadlines. - You are able to track accurately the receiving and shipping of incoming goods, equipment and samples. **Other Requirements**: - You are able to work in an outdoor environment with some physical activity involved, including bending and twisting, lifting and carrying weighted items, and operating forklifts and other lifting devices in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety Regulations. **Other student
