Reporting to the Occupational Health Lead, the Occupational Health Officer is the Enterprise's professional expert for occupational
hygiene matters. Key responsibilities include identifying, evaluating, monitoring, and recommending controls for workplace
environmental factors and stressors with potential to cause sickness, impaired health, significant discomfort, and/or inefficiency
among employees. Additional responsibilities include providing support and guidance to the Safety and Incident Prevention
programs, including matters such as asbestos and other hazardous substance releases/exposures, respiratory protection
requirements, air quality systems, and safe work practices in the workplace.

**_ Responsibilities:_**
- Investigate occupational health concerns and issues and provide specific recommendations to line management for

implementation; provide follow-on consultation to line management to guide, support, and verify implementation of appropriate
and effective controls.
- Investigate concerns regarding chemical, physical, and biological workplace contaminants and determine whether hazardous

conditions exist. Where required, identify appropriate control measures to line management for implementation, including
(non-exhaustive) the design of ventilation systems, selection of substitute products, and selection of personal protective
equipment.
- Maintain current and thorough knowledge of Manitoba Hydro's policies, procedures, programs, and standards pertaining to

occupational health.
- Maintain current working knowledge of occupational health science and the respective regulatory environment; determine and

communicate potential impacts from changes in the body of knowledge and respective regulations to Manitoba Hydro and its
employees.
- Design, implement, maintain, and monitor occupational health programs to prevent illness or injury from occupational health

hazards.
- Act as Manitoba Hydro's occupational health liaison with regulatory agencies, knowledge advancement, sharing, and

advocacy organizations, e.g., Electricity Canada and the Province of Manitoba.
- Provide occupational health training to Manitoba Hydro employees.
- Develop safe work practices and procedures (e.g., asbestos handling and abatement and confined space air monitoring) and

design, prepare, and present training programs to assist line management in the implementation of these practices and
procedures.
- Represent the Enterprise regarding occupational health issues in communication with industry, regulatory agencies, and other

professional groups, and sit on committees pertaining to occupational health issues.
- Provide expert counsel regarding all legal matters related to Enterprise occupational health issues.

**_ Qualifications:_**
- A four-year degree in Biological, Physical, Chemical, or Engineering Science, plus five years of specialized experience in the

OR
- A two-year diploma in Occupational Health Sciences (e.g., occupational hygiene or industrial hygiene) and seven years of

specialized experience in the field of Occupational Health.
- A master's degree in Occupational Health would be considered an asset.
- Possess and maintain a current working knowledge of provincial and federal legislation, codes/standards of practice, and
- guidelines relating to Occupational Safety & Health; be committed to ongoing learning and professional development.- Work effectively with employees at all levels within Manitoba Hydro and in other organizations.
- Work independently using structured methods to solve problems effectively and efficiently; present compelling arguments
