The Manager of Maintenance - Grounds is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of grounds maintenance for the school district’s facilities. This includes ensuring that the school grounds are safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing. The role involves supervising maintenance staff, developing maintenance schedules, managing budgets, and implementing best practices to enhance the efficiency and quality of grounds maintenance operations.
The key objectives are to enhance functionality, improve working and learning environments as well as maximizing the life cycle of our buildings and grounds. This position supports the maintenance department in the effective management of resources within the organization and assists in the development and implementation of site and service upgrades and coordinates and manages snow removal in alignment with the mission and goals of the Board of Education.
The manager reports to the Assistant Director of Maintenance Operations and works closely with the Executive Director - Facilities and Planning Services, as well as other maintenance, project, and facilities managers.
**Required Knowledge, Education and Experience**
- Diploma in Landscape, Horticulture, or Civil Technology or other relevant diploma related to facility or project management from an accredited institution, or relevant trades qualification supported by proven experience and additional formal training that supports the key elements of the position, or an appropriate combination of training and applicable experience.
- Minimum of three years of experience in facilities or project management including two years in an administrative/leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, multi-union, public sector environment.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles of facility management, grounds and site related requirements including turf management, horticulture, all weather sports fields, playground management and preventative maintenance associated with playground equipment, civil work including parking lots and site drainage and fencing repair/replacement.
- Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
- Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance trades, provincial and municipal codes and bylaws.
- Familiarity with contract tendering and management, budget planning and control, as well as building security systems.
- Strong analytical skills and report writing capabilities and demonstrated ability to use computer software technology.
- Excellent managerial, interpersonal, negotiating, dispute resolution, and communication skills.
- As a member of the Emergency Personnel, must be available twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week to provide support during planned events or emergency situations (such as inclement weather) to include being physically on site if deemed necessary.
- A valid BC driver’s license and business use of personal vehicle.

The annual salary range for this position is $105,020 - $131,274 and is complemented with a generous benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan. The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete two criminal record checks.
