**About the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society (VAFCS)**:
The Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society (VAFCS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Urban Indigenous community. Through 23 programs across three locations, we provide culturally grounded services in education, health, social development, and recreation. Our mission is to foster meaningful change and empower Indigenous individuals and families.
**Position Overview**:
As our Aboriginal Employment Case Manager, you will play a vital role in providing crucial support and guidance to our Indigenous clients seeking employment. You will work directly with individuals to develop personalized pathways to success, connecting them with valuable job opportunities and offering ongoing support to ensure their long-term success. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of community members while collaborating with partner organizations to expand employment and educational prospects.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Collaboratively develop and implement individualized employment plans tailored to the unique needs and aspirations of our clients.
- Conduct thorough assessments to identify clients' skills, interests, experience, and employment goals, considering cultural backgrounds and individual circumstances.
- Actively connect clients with relevant job openings, training programs, and educational resources available within the community.
- Provide ongoing support, mentorship, and follow-up to clients who have secured employment, fostering job retention and career advancement.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with community organizations and employers to identify and create new employment and educational opportunities for clients.
- Conduct thorough assessments of both clients' needs and the capacity of partnering organizations to effectively support employment goals.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, progress, and outcomes in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
**Qualifications**:
- A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with Indigenous communities and a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and the unique challenges faced by urban Indigenous people.
- Exceptional communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients and partners.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage a caseload effectively, and contribute positively as a collaborative member of a dynamic team.
- Sound knowledge of the local job market, employment trends, and available employment resources and training programs in the Vancouver area.
- Strong computer skills (MS Office, database, etc.)
**Other Requirements**:
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and clean abstract.
- Vancouver Police Department Vulnerable Sector Check.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Casual
Contract length: 9 months
Pay: $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
