**WellFort is seeking a Dentist to join our team**

Dentist - 0.6 FTE Full-time Permanent

WellFort is a non-profit, values-based organization that provides health promotion and prevention programs, primary and oral health care and works with local residents and other agencies to increase community capacity.

The Dentist provides oral health care to their patients, including preventative care and patient education on teeth, gum, and mouth care. The Dentist is responsible for examining the teeth, gums and mouth as well as a performing a variety of dental procedures including, but certainly not limited to, tooth extractions and fillings. The Dentist, who specializes in oral surgery or cosmetic dental care, can perform additional services for their patients, and along with that comes even more responsibility to ensure proper care for their patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Care
- Performs complete oral examinations, formulates comprehensive treatment plans, informs clients of and obtains consent for treatment plans including hygiene.
- Performs recall exams and works in conjunction with hygiene team to ensure comprehensive oral health of clients on a regular basis.
- Performs dental treatments such as diagnostic, restorations, crown and bridge, denture services, endodontic, periodontal, and preventative care.
- Performs universal precaution procedures for infection control.
- Prescribes antibiotics and administers local anesthetics.
- Responsible for fabrication of dental prosthetic appliances either individually or in conjunction with the denturist.
- Consultation with other health professionals as required in establishing a diagnosis and plan of care.
- Participating in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of treatment, education, counseling, and health promotion services for individuals, families, and the community.
- Providing services to clients at outreach locations. Maintains contact as required by Clinical Protocols with the physician or other staff through telephone consultation.

Health Promotion and Education
- Identifies trends or issues related to the health status of priority groups and uses the information in planning and advocacy work.
- Actively participates in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion and education and support programs that are relevant and meaningful to the community served by WellFort at off-site locations, and in collaboration with community partners.
- Provides health information and counselling to individuals and groups through discussion, workshops/presentations, health fair displays, videos and the provision of written materials.
- Acts as a resource to WellFort staff and in partner/community organizations on specific and general issues regarding injury prevention and chronic disease management.
- Promotes and increase awareness of health promotion activities with clients including risk assessment, lifestyle modifications, and assesses readiness for change.

Administration
- Charts in accordance with the clinic’s dental charting guidelines and standards as set by Royal College of Dental Surgeons.
- Obtains complete medical history and verifies/applies medical history prior to treatment.
- Contributes to policy/protocol development, in relation to health care service delivery and/or professional practice.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of government guidelines, acts and legislation affecting client care.
- Stays current on evidence-based strategies that improve health.
- Supervises care provided by Dental Assistants.
- Orders and interprets x-rays.
- Makes purchases within allocated budget lines and follows protocol for ordering, tracking, and paying for supplies.
- Participate in chart reviews and case conferences.

Other
- Participates in research when opportunities arise.
- Teaches oral hygiene to patients, is responsible, along with the Certified Dental Assistant and Dentist for patiaent education and prevention programs at WellFort.
- Provide care delivery at any of the office sites as program needs dictate.
- Consistent access to a vehicle for responsive care delivery at any care delivery location
- Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

**QULAIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS**:

- Degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery, licensed and in good standing with RCDSO
- Extensive experience in a large dental practice.
- Experience in a community dental clinic or public health environment is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients and staff in a community clinic.
- Strong technical, administrative and interpersonal skills.
- Familiar and comfortable working in a values-based organization.
- Supervisory or leadership experience is an asset, including leading interdisciplinary teams.
- Supervisory or leadership experiences are an asset.
- Leadership and supervisory skills with both individuals and interdisciplinary teams
- Interest in community health
