Recreation Coordinator
- **Reports to**:_Executive Director
- **Qualifications**:_
- Secondary education or additional education in recreation or a degree/diploma in gerontology an asset.
- Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors.
- Be able to read, write and comfortably communicate in English.
- Able to perform physical work.
- Fun to be with, organized, sensitive, enthusiastic, patient, tactful and mature.
- Must be able to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, volunteers, residents and families.
- Experience in planning, organizing and managing events is an asset.

- **Physical Demands**:_
- Sitting for extended periods at a desk for computer/typing work.
- Standing for extended periods of time during events, activities.
- Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
- Typing and/or use of a computer keyboard proficiently.
- Pulling/pushing/lifting to relocate furniture, gaming pieces, etc. up to 50lbs.
- Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen for extended periods of time.
- Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes.
- Speaking/communicating in front of audiences for extended periods of time.
- Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents where required.
- Hand/eye coordination required to play games with Residents.
- **Responsibilities**:_
- Develop, implement and evaluate leisure programs and services to meet the psychosocial, physical, intellectual and spiritual needs of all residents.
- Provide opportunities wherever possible to involve residents in the planning, provision and evaluation of leisure, educational and fundraising activities.
- Determine individual resident needs and provide ongoing documentation of resident progress.
- Facilitate the activities of the Residents’ Council where appropriate.
- Promote the activity programs through monthly activity calendars, newsletters, and postings
- Creates and executes programs that enriches the lives of each resident.
- Completes the Resident Profile, which includes residents’ social history, physical ability and behaviours, spiritual lifestyle, important memories and losses, family dynamics and contacts, dietary requirements and language abilities.
- Follows all components of the Levante Engage Program, to include attendance tracking and monthly resident meetings.
- Coordinates and implements a successful Volunteer Program, including orientation, motivation and development of the volunteers.
- Creates an enjoyable, relaxed and entertaining environment in the residence and assumes responsibility for the morale and well-being of residents.
11. Plan and organize individualized life enrichment programs for the residents.
12. Communicate with each and every resident on a regular basis.
13. Plan, organize, write and publish a monthly newsletter containing a variety of articles and information for distribution to the residents and their families.
14. Maintain positive relationships with community organizations.
- **Job Description: Risk Management and General Safety**_
1. Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.
2. Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures including extinguishers (as applicable), SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
3. Reports all accidents/incidents immediately.
4. Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately.
5. Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies.
6. Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.
