**Position Title**: Food Safety Specialist

**Position Reports to**: Quality Manager
**Position Summary**:
The Food Safety Specialist is responsible for providing proactive site level leadership, implementation and instruction in the area of Food Safety within their designated Flanagan facility. This position drives the corporate food safety system at the site level to mitigate risk to the safety and wholesomeness of food through implementation of the preventative controls outlined in the both the HACCP plan and Flanagan Food Safety Program. This position will lead the implementation and verification of all requirements, policies, procedures, programs and training components at their designated site in support of the Flanagan Food Safety Program. The position also acts as the lead for all product recall/withdrawal communications, regulatory inspections, and is the key contact for all GFSI and customer audits.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Maintain compliance with the HACCP Plan and prerequisite programs at all times.
- Verify all HACCP and food safety related documentation.
- Act as SQF Lead at designated site.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable food safety regulatory requirements.
- Handle and oversee the recall/withdrawal process to ensure timely communication and execution of recalls and completion of all related documentation.
- Verify and Monitor all corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
- Deliver and track Food Safety Training program to all key positions.
- Respond to and investigate all temperature related issues from receiving through to distribution.
- Conduct ongoing evaluations/inspections of facilities and associates to ensure they meet the set standards defined by the Food Safety Program.
- Investigate all Food Safety related complaints/incidents.
- Temperature control issues.
- Foreign Material Contaminations.
- Assist in the management of all 3rd party/regulatory audits and inspections.
- Assist in the ongoing management and compliance with the Flanagan Vendor approval process.
- Investigate and follow-up in a timely manner with all Food Safety complaints from customers and communicate resolutions to all internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct internal Food Safety audits of the designated facility to ensure all capabilities, conditions and execution of procedures within the Flanagan Food Safety Program are met.
- Complete and keep up to date on all Health & Safety, Food Safety and Quality Assurance training pertinent to the role.
- Responsible for reporting any and all concerns related to the Health & Safety, safe handling and integrity of all items received, stored and distributed by Flanagan Foodservice.
- Adherence to all Health & Safety, Food Safety and WHMIS practices.
- Follow safe and efficient work procedures to meet customer requirements including maintaining a clean and safe environment.

**Required Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary education in the Sciences or a Food related field.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in Food Safety, Food Quality Assurance and/or Inventory Control in Food Service or Food Manufacturer.
- Strong Microsoft Office Skills, with advanced level in Excel.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with internal and cross-functional teams.
- Highly organized, with proven time-management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
