**Position Summary**
An exciting opportunity exists in our Metals Division in Fort Saskatchewan plant site for a Scheduler, Logistics.
Reporting to the Manager, Logistics, the Scheduler, Logistics will efficiently schedule and coordinate with shipping lines, trucking companies, container yards and Fort Site Material Management team at the East Gate to administrate and execute the day to day scheduling of finished and by-product shipments from the Fort Site to our customers.
**Accountabilities**
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate the day-to-day trucking operations, with a 0 to 3-month timeline, that aligns with Logistics shipping time line.
- Perform container booking, truck scheduling, and releasing of all nickel and cobalt finished product trucks and by-product trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Prepare, and file all shipping and trucking documents generated at East Gate required to be provided to Shipping companies.
- Coordinate and monitor day-to-day allocation of finished products and by-products to shipments, and scheduling of the loading operations at Materials Management.
- Assist Management in identifying and resolving roadblocks that are impeding the completion of safe, efficient, and cost effective operation work.
- Ensure Logistics trucking requirements are consistently met and participate in discussions with trucking service providers with timely communications of recommended solutions.
- Coordinate with Logistics Coordinators and provide coverage as required.
- Administer and coordinate cross functionality with Transport services, Marketing, SCM Logistics, Production, and Material Management to ensure that all saleable products and materials shipping operations deliver per customer requirements.
- Ensure that shipments do not transit via United States seaports, rail terminals or airports due to the United States embargo.
- Maintain accurate data required to forecast upcoming transportation requirements to provide timely and cost-effective service.
- Identify alternative solutions and execute when faced with changes and challenges in shipping and transport requirements.
- Participate in operation workplace incident reporting and investigations for trucking operations of end product and by-product shipments from Fort Site - including completing corrective actions.
- Recommend and implement tools to collect data and KPI’s to measure the effectiveness of Trucking operations and implement continuous improvement strategies for the Logistics Scheduler position.
- Utilize a collaborative approach to working with Materials Management, Marketing, and Logistics to ensure that current and accurate information is used for scheduling work activities.
- Provide accurate and updated information to internal stakeholders and external customers regarding the status of import and export shipments.
- Update and maintain Shipping Schedule for daily shipment planning.
- Identify and recommend improvements to procedures to optimize the Metals Logistics Department’s performance by following good or best practices, improving key performance indicators for the department.
**Qualifications and Skills**
- Post-Secondary diploma in Logistics Management or similar discipline, or at least 5 years in lieu
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of international transportation and/or international freight forwarding.
- 2-3 years of Logistics experience at large process plant operations
- Knowledge of Canadian import and export regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of Transportation Regulations such as IATA, WHMIS, IMO, and IMDG
- Working knowledge of management information systems.
- Must be knowledgeable in all forms of international transportation documentation
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods for land. Sea, and air certification.
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Globally Harmonized Chemical Substance (GHS) certification
- Working knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations.
- Effective planning, scheduling, coordinating and execution
- Effective written and verbal communication with good interpersonal skills
- Advanced computer skills related to Microsoft Office and Logistics systems.
