The Institute for Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is home to leading scientific experts dedicated to informing policy and practice on mental illness and substance use disorders. IMHPR scientists conduct collaborative research on communities, populations, health systems and global health, and develop and evaluate prevention and intervention initiatives to reduce mental health and substance use challenges. IMHPR is committed to equity, informed by the social determinants of health.

IMHPR is seeking a Research Analyst for a part-time, contract (6 months) position to support an ongoing research initiative that requires a strong background in qualitative research. The project is supported by the philanthropically funded Rangerman Public Health Practice and Innovation in Addictions (RAPID) Lab fund which aims to promote fast-tracked, innovative and action-oriented work in research and clinical programs at CAMH to address the opioid crisis. Data collection for this project will involve conducting in-person in-depth interviews and graphic elicitation to uncover people’s pathways to hazardous opioid use. Graphic elicitation, specifically participant-led timeline mapping, will be used, wherein people who have lived or living experience of hazardous opioid use will be asked to create a visual timeline of their substance use journey. In-depth interviews will occur as the timeline is being created, with the interviewer taking a facilitative rather than directive role. Findings from this project will be used to inform the development or improvement of prevention and early intervention efforts that focus on social and structural factors influencing opioid use pathways.

This position will assist with data collection involving participant-led timeline mapping and in-depth qualitative interviews with people with lived and living experiences of hazardous opioid use. More specifically, the Research Analyst will be responsible for the following research activities:

- recruiting and screening study participants, organizing and scheduling interviews
- obtaining informed consent from participants
- collecting demographic information
- conducting graphic elicitation and in-depth qualitative one-to-one interviews with participants
- compiling, organizing, and analyzing large volumes of qualitative data
- writing up study results for publications and reports (e.g., draft academic manuscripts)
- engaging in knowledge translation activities (e.g., creating presentations, infographics, etc.)
- ensuring close adherence to strict protocols for the protection of data privacy and confidentiality

This is a part-time 6-month position with the possibility of extension.
