Tired on an indoor, chlorine pool and want to get out in the sun? Work for us as a swim

instructor this summer.

Besides our outdoor adventure camps, Western Educational Adventures (WEA) operates

private Red Cross swimming lessons at various outdoor and private locations on Vancouver

Island, specifically the Greater Victoria, Sooke, Duncan and Cowichan Valley areas. To help

facilitate our swim program, WEA is looking for part swim lesson instructors. The typical

program season starts in June and ends in late August or mid-to-late September. However,

there may be periodic work available during the rest of the year. We ask you to take a moment

Renumeration

$27-$31/hr for swim instruction.
$20/hr for any potential administrative work.

Hours

Most of WEA’s swim lessons are scheduled at the same times each week and can run for

multiple weeks. As such, swim instructors are expected to commit to the same dates and times

for at least 3 weeks in a row (some exceptions may be made). Instructors are expected to have

available for at least 5 hours per week during peaks times of 09:00-19:00. Lessons are typically

scheduled at some point between 09:00-21:00, 7 days a week during the summer season.

Please note, this may vary, and we will do our best to make sure the hours and times work for

both the instructor and WEA.

without direction or supervision for extended periods of time

Swim Lesson

Has a growth mindset, appreciates, and can implement feedback from WEA or clients

**Responsibilities**:
This contract requires you to be able to perform various functions and duties, some of which

are listed below:
Supervise students in the various aquatic environments including lakes & private pools
Communicate and coordinate with parents. This includes sorting out lesson changes

directly with clients and updating WEA’s admin team on changes made

Complete daily log and timesheet of hours worked
Attend required training sessions
Facilitate swimming lessons using WEA’s methodology
Provide constructive feedback for supervisors, other staff, and programs

Minimum qualifications

At least 1 year experience working with children
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certification
Standard First Aid and CPR-C
Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening

Desired qualifications

40 or 80 hr Wilderness First Aid
WSIT
NLS, NLS Waterfront, NLSI
