Unit Cleaner

**Currently Seeking**:
**FT/PT Unit Cleaner for a Retirement Home Setting in the Upper Beaches area - Day Shift (8:00am to 4:00pm - including rotational weekends) or Evening Shift (3:30pm - 11:30pm - **including rotational weekends)**

**Responsibilities**:
VHA's RH is a non-COVID-19 hospital unit set up in a Retirement Home Facility by a well known Hospital to support their Alternate Level of Care (ALC) Initiative. VHA's Unit Cleaner at this location will be responsible for providing practical and thorough cleaning of a patient care unit with approximately 18 rooms. Their responsibilities will be but not limited to:

- Clean, dry and wet mop floors in common areas, staff areas and patient rooms, collect garbage and dispose of appropriately (sorting grey, blue and green bin waste)
- Clean patient and staff washrooms and replenish supplies
- They will also carry out terminal cleaning procedures as described by Infection Prevention Control protocols, as well as other cleaning duties as assigned
- Using the on-site commercial laundry facilities
- Laundering, drying and re-stocking bed linens, towels and other têxtiles.

**Ideal Qualifications**
- Minimum of one year's experience in private or institutional cleaning.
- Experience working with frail clients who are dealing with age-related health conditions and/or mental disabilities is an asset.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Ability to work independently while following pre-set instructions and work cooperatively with the care-giving team.
- Ability to read and write English (equivalent to the Grade 8 level).
- Must be flexible to be able to support a diverse client group.
- Demonstrated commitment to client and family centered care.
- Physically able to provide safe and timely client care.
- Use of proper body mechanics and successful completion of the Physical Readiness Test to ensure safe work practices are followed, including transfers, bending, lifting, push and pulling.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize safety issues, communicate effectively and provide minor problem solving.
- Effective problem solving and decision making skills to safely service clients.
- Immunization for measles, rubella and varicella, and prophylaxis immunization of Hepatitis B is strongly urged. Must be screened for tuberculosis where required (i.e. long term care facility).
- Flexible to work weekends
- Ability to speak a second language is a definite asset
