Home Support Worker

**We are currently seeking a **Home Support Worker** in the East York and Toronto areas.**

**Please note this is not a PSW position - this is for Home Support**

The **Home Support** Worker at VHA Home HealthCare is responsible for providing practical **household assistance** to people in their homes. In our HSW services you’ll do more than provide services to clients; you’ll build strong, long-lasting relationships. We offer high-quality, multilingual services that are growing across Ontario, and our work environment focuses on supporting clients and staff through client and family centered care, well-connected healthcare teams, and continual improvement support people with low or fixed income who are unable to take care of their home.

Our clients range from those with mental health issues, who live alone, are elderly, are physically challenged, or at risk for being institutionalized and losing their home. A Home Support Worker is required to perform various household duties including but not limited to**:housekeeping, laundry, cleaning kitchen and bathrooms, making beds.** Duties vary from client to client ranging from light to heavy housekeeping. This position is physically demanding and consists of repetitive tasks on a day to day and home to home basis.

**Key Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience**:

- Experience in providing **homemaking and cleaning services.**:

- Possess a compassionate and flexible nature, and a client-centered approach to home support
- Demonstrated ability to recognize safety issues and follow safe work practices
- Must be able to meet the physical demand requirements of the role
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Effective verbal and written English language skills
- Requires good judgment, and ability to provide minor problem solving
- Ability to travel between assignments by public transportation or by car
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is a definite asset
- Ability to speak a second language is a definite asset
- Experience working in the community and providing personal care services is a definite asset
- A keen desire to learn
