Cooking/baking Instructor

The **Abby Community School Society** (ACSS) is looking for fun and motivated individuals to join their instructing team. We are looking for part-time program instructors who will lead our Cooking/Baking programs. This posting is for a Cooking/Baking Program Instructor.

**About ACSS - What is a community school?**

It is a designated school facility that is open beyond the traditional school schedule to offer a variety of community learning and recreational opportunities to people of all ages. Community schools are multi-service facilities working in partnership with other community agencies, organizations and individuals to improve the quality of life in the community. Our Community school will be running classes out of schools in Abbotsford and are such as but not limited to, Abbotsford Senior Secondary School, Abbotsford Middle School, Eugene Reimer Middle School, Chief Dan George Middle School, Dormick Park Elementary, Alexander Elementary School, Matsqui Elementary, Ross Elementary, Godson Elementary, Prince Charles Elementary, Clearbrook Elementary, Ten-Broeck Elementary, Terry Fox Elementary, Centennial Park Elementary, Harry Sayers Elementary, Dave Kandal Elementary and Auguston Elementary, and Aberdeen Elementary.

We are currently searching to hire a Cooking/Baking Program Instructor. Successful applicants must be able to work both during the afternoons & evenings (2:15pm - 4:15pm or 2:45pm - 4:45pm, for afternoons) and (5:45pm - 7:45pm or 6:00pm - 8:00pm, for evenings).

Applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check. Current First Aid is an asset. Compensation is based on experience and programs that are being led. Compensation for successful applicants starts at $17.85 per hour for this program depending on their experience and skill set. This position is part-time (4-10 hours/week).

This program runs once a week for a duration of 6 weeks total.

Cooking instructors are expected to have strong technical skills in classical and contemporary cuisine and promote a positive/interactive environment with hands-on-learning. Cooking instructors are also expected to be team-oriented and promote culinary activities given to students.

**Responsibilities**:

- Preparing food and supplies before the program begins
- Washing/sanitizing utensils, dishes, tables and counter tops
- Preparing recipes and live tutorials for students
- Assisting students in cooking/baking
- Providing historical background of chosen recipes
- Providing first aid for minor injuries; cuts, scrapes, burns, etc.
- Creating a positive, welcoming, sterile, and safe environment for children

**Qualifications**:

- (1-2 yrs) experience working in a kitchen/bakery with the ability to work independently
- (1yr) experience working with children
- Emergency Childcare First - Aid & CPR (Level 1) Certification
- FOODSAFE Level 1 Certification (mandatory)

**Preferred Skills**:

- Fluent in both English & French

Pay: From $17.85 per hour
