**Overview**:
We are seeking an experienced post-award Grants & Awards Officer to join the Research Finance team at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI).
The position reports to the Director, Finance & Administration and will work closely with others in the Finance and research support teams.
**Responsibilities**:
- Post-award administration of research grants and trust accounts, including the transfer of funds and set up of research accounts.
- Liaise between OHIRC Research Administration, the funding Agencies and OHIRC researchers for matters of financial administration including policies, procedures and agency guidelines.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports in accordance with funding agency requirements,
- Monitor reporting systems and processes for grant administration.
- Approve purchases/payments against project budgets, monitor expenses and financial activities and address deficits, budget
- or policy-related issues.
- Provide financial statements, assist with account review, financial analysis, forecasts and project financial reporting.
- Accounting for research revenue, expenditures and reconciliation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Policies and Procedures related to pre-and post-award management.
- Provide systems training as requested.
**Essential qualifications**:
- A minimum three to five years recent work experience in a similar role in research administration.
- Accounting degree/diploma or equivalent financial experience.
- Strong working knowledge of a Financial System (Microsoft Dynamic Navision preferred).
- Expert knowledge of health research funding agencies, academic research organizations, and the principles and methods of research administration and grant program management.
- Very good to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
**Knowledge and skills**:
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize to meet strict deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills to communicate with managers, peers and research community.
- Excellent financial comprehension and critical analysis skills with proven experience in data analysis, financial reporting, and budget control.
- High level of resourcefulness, initiative and prioritization to meet challenges of a complex environment.
- Flexibility required for occasionally working extended hours.
