As Quality Assurance Technician you will assist in developing and maintaining Steam Whistle’s quality program by ensuring all products consistently meet our quality standards throughout the brewing and packaging processes. Ideally you have a strong passion for sustaining high quality standards and will be responsible for conducting regular quality checks on products to ensure adherence to specifications.
**Responsibilities**:
- Perform comprehensive quality testing on beer samples to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory standards
- Monitor production processes, including brewing, fermentation, filtration, and packaging to ensure consistency of operation
- Effectively operate, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment to keep in good working order
- Aseptically collect samples for microbiological testing and perform microbiological analysis of samples using traditional plating techniques (Spread Plate, Pour Plate, and Membrane Filtration) and PCR.
- Administer and participate in internal sensory panels to evaluate the appearance, taste, aroma, and flavor of products
- Documentation of test results and drafting of quality reports, elevating issues with management as needed
- Assist in investigating deviations from established standards and implementing corrective actions
- Champion Steam Whistle Brewing's Quality Assurance Program by providing quality related training to employees and creating standard operating procedures for quality control processes
**Skills and Experience**:
- Post secondary accreditation in food science, chemistry, microbiology, or a related field is strongly preferred
- One year's work experience, preferably in a lab-based or quality role. Previous experience within the brewing or food/beverage industry is an asset
- Working knowledge of good lab/manufacturing practices and principles of HACCP
- Proficient in data reporting and analysis tools such as Excel
- Must have strong attention to detail, good problem solving skills, and be highly organized
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
- Self-motivated and must be able to use initiative to complete tasks
- This is a Monday to Friday day shift position with the early shift starting at 6.00am_
- Working in the laboratory, this role involves lots of standing and operating lab equipment._
