POV ’s mission is to champion diverse young people from traditionally underrepresented communities to develop their talent and creative passion into economic success in the film, television, advertising, and digital media industries. POV provides technical training, skills development, and support to talented young creatives, who are driven and have a desire to work in the industry, but lack relevant work experience, social capital and the financial capacity required to pursue their passions and aspirations.
The Media Training Program Facilitator is responsible for the coordination, facilitation and execution of POV’s flagship Media Training Program. Working with the Managing Director, you will provide oversight, budgeting, coordination, and support the program participants through collaborative practices and individual support.
You are an exceptional relationship-builder and a champion of diversity and inclusion, with high emotional intelligence and the credibility to respectfully challenge the status quo and gain support for new ideas. You have experience leading people and can motivate and empower them during periods of change. Well networked in Toronto’s content production industry and community, you can select optimal program partners, manage program delivery, and develop collaborative relationships that provide insight to emerging trends and support best practices within the content production industry.
**Core Function**:The Media Training Program facilitator is responsible for leading POV’s media training program, including assistance in pre-planning activities and post-program support of participants and program reporting. You have experience working in the content production industry and are equipped to teach technical and creative workshops if needed and can support this need through your industry networks and connections. You must be available for some weekends as pre-determined during the program planning and delivery schedules.
Success in this role is measured by the quality, impact and timely delivery of the Media Training Program, the attainment of the intended program and post-program outcomes, and participant, volunteer and partner satisfaction and retention
**Core Responsibilities**:
**Program Design and Management (30%)**
- Coordinate planning and implementation of the MTP program, working with the Managing Director to adapt it to meet the ongoing needs of the participants
- Work with the Managing Director in the development, implementation and coordination of program evaluation, ensuring all data is current and accurate for reporting to funders, donor, POV Board and other stakeholders
- Maintain consistent and professional communication with instructors, mentors, partners, participants and other stakeholders
- Work alongside Managing Director in setting and tracking program budgets & expenses
**Program Instruction & Facilitation (30%)**
- Lead and/or facilitate workshops where necessary or appropriate with the support of program facilitators and volunteer instructors. Training modules include:
Screenwriting
Documentary
Lighting & Cinematography
Sound Recording
Set Procedure & Etiquette
Pre-Production
Production
Post-production (Colour & Sound Design/Mixing)
- Assist in coordinating volunteer instructors, mentors, guest speakers, participants and other stakeholders involved in program delivery. Maintain consistent and professional communications.
- Support with securing all required equipment rentals, teaching materials and training supplies for all programs
**Program Design (20%)**
- Support Program guest instructors & mentors, to develop program curricula to its greatest potential by developing lesson plans and revising and updating curricula when needed.
- Collaborate with industry partners and networks to ensure the program meets industry needs and standards, including adapting program design and ensuring outreach to appropriate collaborators when necessary.
- Support program development with insight from research, industry stakeholders and program facilitators
- Remain current on trends and best practices in supporting young creatives who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, low income and/or newcomers and incorporate insights as necessary into program design
**Participant Management & Success (20%)**
- Manage post-program placements and job support for MTP participants
- Update existing program curriculum so that it is relevant to participants and responsive to current industry needs
- Assess participant needs and develop plans and resources to support participant career goals.
- Oversee complete participant outcomes in compliance with funder requirements; monitor participants’ progress with ongoing follow-up
**Required skills and experiences**:
- 5+ years’ experience working and establishing networks within the film, TV, advertising or digital media industries
- Filmmaking and short and/or long form video technical skills with strong production back
