Research Assistant, Drosophila Biology

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.

**Position Overview**:
The applicant’s tasks will involve assisting with basic Drosophila work such as crosses, and phenotyping such as behavioural observations, cleaning and autoclaving of Drosophila vials and bottles and preparation of fresh media for the maintenance of Drosophila stocks and experiments. Other tasks as per the description of the research assistant position classifications might apply.

**Duties**:

- Primarily to support with experiments involving phenotyping of Drosophila behaviour and reproductive physiology.
- Assist with preparation of food for Drosophila stocks maintenance and experiments.
- Cleaning and autoclaving of old food vials and bottles.
- Other tasks as per the position classification might apply.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a University Genetics introductory course, such as BIOL-2301 or equivalent.
- Prior work experience involving Drosophila is required.
- Basic experience with plastic washing and autoclaving.

**Condition(s) of Employment**:

- **Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.**

The period of work will be from **September 8, 2025 - May 1, 2026**and the estimated total hours of work will be **0-120 hours**.
