**PURPOSE**

The Foreman is responsible for the safe and efficient functioning of the Open Pit, thereby ensuring that established production targets are met or exceeded.

**ACCOUNTABILITY**

This position reports directly to the General Foreman and directly supervises equipment operators.

**RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE STANDARDS**
- Manage a multi-skilled work force in a unionized environment
- Supervise, coach and lead personnel to ensure that all safety and operational procedures are being followed and proper housekeeping is maintained.
- Lead, organize and direct day-to-day open pit production work according to schedule and provide updates on progress
- Identify training needs and development of the crew to ensure that appropriate training programs are developed to improve employee skills and operations effectiveness.
- Complete time sheets, shift reports and incident reports as required.
- Conduct incident investigations consistent with established protocols.
- Conduct performance reviews and ongoing coaching with employees.
- Conduct tool box and monthly safety meetings and attend Manager’s meetings as required.
- Comply with all OSHE requirements and other related government regulations.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Education
- Minimum grade 12 is required. Post secondary coursework/training in processing is beneficial.
- AMSA Supervisor Education Course completion or eligible to take the course.

Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in open pit, hard rock coal mining operations is required including recent experience (2-5 years) in supervisory role

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of open pit operations.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and related legislation
- Knowledge of basic mechanical and improvement methods.
- Ability to prioritize work schedules to meet the demand of the open pit.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent supervisory and motivating skills.
- Understanding of scheduling and payroll guidelines, Occupational Safety and Health regulations and disciplinary procedures.
- Proficiency with all Microsoft suite programs.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Lift up to 10 kg.
- Valid driver’s license and experience driving 4x4 vehicle
- Stay alert during periods of inactivity for more than 60 minutes.
- Concentrate for over 60 consecutive minutes.
- Listen for quiet sounds.
- Hear specific noises over background noises.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**

***The incumbent works at the CST Coal Mine Site facility on a 7-day on/7-day off, 12 hour day and night shift schedule. Overtime and being on stand-by or ready for call-outs may be required due to the nature of the work. He/she is in an open pit setting approximately 85% of the time, in an office setting 10% of the time and working outdoors 5% of the time. He/she is exposed to coal dust, chemicals or fumes and loud, continuous noise levels that require hearing protection. As a condition of employment, the incumbent is required to comply with pre and post employment drug and alcohol testing as per the Company Drug and Alcohol Policy. As required, personal protective equipment will include the use of an approved hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection, CSA approved respiratory protection, protective clothing and gloves.
