**The Opportunity**
Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operations Officer is accountable for aligning and driving all operational functions within the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth, and supporting impact measures, fiscal and business processes, and achieving all operational objectives. Working collaboratively with the members of the Senior Leadership Team you will provide strategic leadership towards delivery of our YMCA Purpose of building a healthy community through the power of belonging. You are the executive lead for all operational areas including Child Care, Youth Development, Community Outreach, Employment Services, Newcomer Settlement, Overnight Camping, Health Fitness & Aquatics.
**Responsibilities include**
- People and Culture _
- Leading our People & Culture team, you will drive employee experience with our 500+ employees and volunteers, reflecting our YMCA purpose and values
- Establish and maintain a high-performing team of direct reports, with a keen focus on recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention initiatives that impact our entire YMCA
- Serve as a leader of people; lead by example in modelling the YMCA core value system
- Act as an expert in coaching/developing our leaders to achieve operational goals and objectives.
- Strategy Vision & Leadership_
- Develop and implement work plans that align all operations with our strategic plan
- Collaborate with the CEO and the other executives in the development of annual operating and impact metrics that guide the sustainability and relevance of our YMCA to the community
- Develop and ensure new initiatives support long-term strategic goals, increased community penetration, growth in participation and have sound fiscal management
- Program & Operational Excellence_
- Integrate and deploy operational plans that support success in growth initiatives with a focus on our three strategic initiatives - **Youth Empowerment, Health and Wellness, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion**:
- Development, implementation, and oversight of all current YMCA programs including specific operational plans that utilize program metrics for financial sustainability and impactful outcomes for participants.
- Capacity Development_
- Identify areas of growth, expansion, and market penetration to enhance the YMCA reach and profile within the community, both locally and nationally.
- Collaborate with internal YMCA departments, leadership, and resources to support the maximization of opportunities to further Y mandate and enhance our brand.
- Foster an environment of best practice/resource sharing between and among departments.
**Qualifications and Skills**
- Post-secondary education in business, operations, social work, or a related field
- 10+ years of management experience, human services and membership operations, or a relevant combination of education and work experience
- Proven track record of success in community-oriented program delivery
- Extensive working knowledge of revenue generation through multiple sources.
- Knowledge of immigration system, youth development, community resources, government funding, childcare, camping, and/or membership services
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and the ability to establish rapport
