**Position Description**:
The Supervisor, Transportation Operations (Traffic) will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of operational and maintenance activities for year-round road maintenance.

**Accountabilities**:

- Schedule the daily operations for winter road maintenance operations, through issuance of work orders and restoration sheets.
- Supervise the day-to-day field activities within division.
- Supervise activities to ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation requirements, policies, procedures and specifications.
- Supervise, train and develop operational staff to provide outstanding service delivery including the use of technology (iPads, etc.).
- Assist in establishing, monitoring and controlling costs.
- Assist with procurement of contracted services.
- Assist with preparation of Standard Operating Procedures for various operational activities.
- Remain apprised of new technologies in road maintenance and winter control operations.
- Conduct invoicing for services provided to developers or other land owners.
- Perform the duties of the other Transportation supervisors as required for continuity of service/coverage.
- Coordinate and manage operations with respect to the leaf pick-up program each fall.
- Assist the Manager of Operations with various activities, including winter control (e.g. salt management planning).
- Take direction from the Manager of Transportation Operations and work closely with two other Transportation Supervisors, various Lead Hands, and other personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- College diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Transportation or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in summer and winter maintenance operations (e.g. traffic signs, line painting, sweeping, salting, snow plowing, snow loading, weather monitoring).
- Demonstrated supervisory skills in a unionized environment.
- Thorough knowledge of road maintenance and winter control operations, maintenance standards, specifications, equipment, materials and techniques.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and survey knowledge.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act including actual and potential hazards associated with road maintenance and winter control operations.
- Full understanding of O.Reg. 239/02 (Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways).
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and commitment to outstanding customer service to deal efficiently and effectively with City staff from all levels, external agencies and the public.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles
- Strong computer and technical skills including experience with computerized maintenance management systems (e.g. Maximo, Burnside, AVL, etc.).
- Flexibility to work varied and additional hours including rotating on-call shifts and winter control shifts - this role will be required to work rotating shifts.
- A satisfactory police record check will be required as a condition of hire.
