KCE Construction Ltd. is a long-standing sewer and water main contractor with projects that range all over the Ottawa Area. We are hiring experienced backhoe, shovel operators in the Ottawa Area.

Applicants must have experience operating a backhoe or shovel in sewer and water main construction. A valid driver's license is preferred

A Shovel/Backhoe Operator must be able to work safely around an excavation shoring system. Must be familiar with excavation practices and have the ability to do fine grading. This position reports to and works under the guidance of the Site Foreman.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Practice workplace safety to ensure the safety of fellow employees and the public.
- Works under the direction of the site foreman, to complete daily schedule of work
- Performs daily safety and maintenance checks
- Clean equipment as scheduled and/or required
- Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored
- Advise Foreman of any required maintenance or repairs
- Participate in routine maintenance

**REQUIRED SKILLS**
- Experience with excavations
- 3 + years experience in the operation of heavy equipment in a high traffic environment and close proximity of manpower
- Knowledge reading locate sheets and possible underground and/or overhead utilities
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures including but not limited to backing up procedures, use of flagmen and spotters, signage, incident reporting, required personal safety equipment and lifting of heavy loads.
- Knowledge of equipment operation, cleaning and maintenance requirements
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills (both listening and verbal)

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Must work in all weather conditions and be prepared for both extreme heat and cold
- May at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection
- Physically strenuous and demanding
- Must be able to work independently and maintain a schedule of work

**Salary**: $28.00-$35.00 per hour
