Job Description
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) - Regina Integrated Service Area is seeking a full-time Medical Biochemist (1.0 FTE) to join the Division of Biochemistry and Toxicology in the Department of Laboratory Medicine. The Regina Laboratory Medicine Department has a complement of 24 laboratory physicians and 3 Clinical Biochemists providing Clinical services to all clinical sites in the Regina Integrated Area and reference service to southern Saskatchewan. The department is growing and has recently received funding for three new doctoral positions in biochemistry and newborn screening.
The laboratory services include high volume routine chemistry, immunodiagnostic testing, specialized chemistry, point of care, toxicology, therapeutic drug monitoring, and newborn and prenatal screening at the Regina General Hospital, Pasqua Hospital, and Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory. The latter offers specialized screening and reference diagnostic testing.
Medical and technical leadership in Medical Biochemistry with a demonstrated high level of expertise and experience in test utilization/standardization, quality assurance, Point of Care testing, and other stewardship activities are desirable. The Medical Biochemist will partner with the entire chemistry team in the operation and management of clinical biochemistry laboratories, and act as a consultant in all aspects of Medical Biochemistry. The specialist will direct clinical laboratories, and provide test interpretation of patients with a variety of metabolic disorders and biochemical abnormalities. The specialist will work collaboratively with other members of our healthcare team and participate in on-call duties as a consultant in delivering a high quality service.
Job Qualifications
Successful applicants will be eligible for a Provisional or Regular licensure from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS).
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) requires a criminal record check (CRC) from every potential SHA team member. The CRC must be dated within the past six (6) months and be satisfactory to the SHA. A vulnerable sector check (VSC) is required for individuals providing patient/resident/client care to vulnerable persons.
