**Role Responsibilities**:

- Reporting to the Manager, Peace Officer and Secuirity Services, this position will supervise the investigator/auditors in conducting enforcement and compliance activities pursuant to the _Peace Officer Act_ (POA) and Regulations, the _Security Services and Investigators Act_ (SSIA), the _Body Armour Control Act_ and the _Civil Enforcement Act_. This position will carry on some investigative workload and provide operational oversight, direction, and advice to the investigation/audit team and stakeholders, to ensure that effective government oversight of these programs is exercised.

Key Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

- Supervise and oversee a staff of six investigator/auditors located in Edmonton and Calgary and coordinate operational activities with administrative staff;
- Assign and review all investigations, compliance audits and professional standards background checks for the peace officer and security programs to ensure they are completed in accordance with legislation and best practice;
- Oversee the auditing of a agencies under the _POA_ and _SSIA_ for regulatory compliance;
- Conduct investigations and audits as required or to assist investigator/auditors;
- Monitor and review agency handling of the legislated public complaints processes;
- Assign and monitor legislated request for review (appeal) processes;
- Assign investigator/auditors to support the compliance activities for the _Civil Enforcement Act_ and other law enforcement-related legislation, as required;
- Maintain ongoing relationships with participating agencies and various stakeholders, both internal and external;
- Identify issues and draft briefing notes to manager and Director of Law Enforcement on emerging issues and sensitive investigations;
- Conduct performance assessments with direct reports, manage audit schedules and monitor staff while travelling for work; and
- Assist with the development and maintenance of internal operational policy and practices.

As the Team Lead, you must have the ability to establish, foster and maintain professional working relationships; as this role works closely with program participants, governments, police services and other stakeholders in the public safety arena. You must also have strong time management and organizational skills in order for you to help your team meet required timelines. Lastly, it is critical that you demonstrate strong decision making abilities based on sound judgement and fairness, and that you can adapt both your verbal and written communication to fit the needs of your audience.

**Qualifications**:

- A university degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law Enforcement, or a related field, plus four (4) years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
