Reports to: Bail Department Manager
Position Summary:
The John Howard Society of Peel-Halton-Dufferin is seeking a dedicated Enhanced Bail Supervisor/Court Worker to provide service across our regions and their corresponding locations (Brampton, Mississauga, Milton, Orangeville).
The **Bail Supervisor - Enhanced** is responsible for supervision and case management of clients along with court-based responsibilities. The position assesses potential clients for Enhanced Program suitability and provides service planning and support to individuals whose criminal matters are before the courts.
This position works with individuals who are experiencing significant barriers to securing release on Judicial Interim Release Order, and whose criminal record or outstanding charges reflect challenges related to mental health/substance use/cognitive deficits. Clients will be experiencing persistent issues, may be facing homelessness and poverty, and may have been denied supervision in the regular bail program stream. They may have had numerous convictions related to their barriers, which have excluded them from regular community supervision.
The Supervisor will assess the individuals complex needs and risk factors to develop plans of supervision which would include but are not limited to accessing housing, medical services, treatment/counselling, and attending appointments. Enhanced supervisors will interact with clients multiple times per week, based on their assessed risks and needs.
Job Accountabilities
**Supervision and Case Management**
- Provide direct support, information, and counselling to clients.
- Support clients to understand and follow through with responsibilities outlined in their Judicial Interim Release.
- Establish a routine reporting time frame and provide supports conducive for successful reporting.
- Interact respectfully with a with a diverse population on a variety of sensitive topics.
- Advocate for client across a variety of systems and stakeholders.
- Assist clients with referrals to services, such as Ontario Works, employment, and treatment.
- Conduct regular risk/need assessments and develop service plans for treatment and recidivism reduction.
- Conduct Violence Risk Assessments and participate in the development of a Violence Prevention Plan.
- Assist regular stream Bail Supervisors with case management plans and risk mitigation plans.
- Conduct appointments in the community, at the courthouse, in a JHSPHD office location, at stakeholder offices, or other locations that meet the needs of the client.
Court Work
- Attend the Alternative Resolution Court or Assignment courts as needed.
- Liaise with Bail Program Court Representatives, Duty Counsel, Crown Attorneys, and other court stakeholders regarding referrals and program eligibility.
- Testify in court as required.
- Maintain consistent communication and develop positive relationships with court personnel and other service providers involved with the client.
Documentation/Administrative
- Ensure case management practices, as outlined in Minimum Standards, are adhered to including all documentation to be complete and properly recorded.
- Maintain client file in a timely and efficient manner, assessments, notes, reports, statistical information.
- Follow all protocol/procedures outlined in program manual.
- Provide comprehensive reports to management as required.
- Prepare reports for court as needed.
Specialty Program Requirements
- Maintain current skills and knowledge regarding treatment modalities and best practices regarding Mental Health, Addiction, Traumatic Brain Injury, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum, Dementia, and other conditions that may be affecting clients’ ability to refrain from involvement in the criminal justice system and/or abide by the conditions of their release.

- Frequent collaborative work, including projects and committees.
- Daily interaction with individuals who have and/or are currently experiencing trauma, engaging in active substance use, and/or demonstrating behaviours consistent with a variety of psychological conditions.
**Qualifications**:
- Completion of post-secondary education in a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years case management experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in current approaches for mental health, addiction, and cognitive conditions.
- Excellent communication skills across verbal and digital communication platforms.
- A valid license with access to own vehicle required as this position will routinely work out of more than one location.
