Payroll Specialist

**Goals and Outcomes**:
The Payroll Specialist position ensures accurate processing of the company’s in-house, multi-location, bi-weekly payroll. Duties include payroll-related data entry into the Payroll system, processing of employee wages, and verifying all tax-related and benefit-related deductions are accurate. The position will also entail certain general accounting-related responsibilities.
**Essential Functions**:
- Perform daily payroll department operations.
- Manage workflow to ensure payroll is processed accurately and timely.
- Audit and approve hours worked within the timekeeping system.
- Accurately process employee pay.
- Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance.
- Audit biweekly payroll before transmitting.
- Run and audit payroll and benefit-related reports.
- Process accurate and timely Biweekly, Quarterly and Annual payroll tax reconciliations.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the Payroll Database to be able to create Ad-Hoc reports on demand.
- Employment verification requests.
- Provide customer service to employees and managers to resolve payroll-related questions.
- Other month-end accounting/projects as assigned.
- General accounting responsibilities as assigned, including, but not limited to, payables/receivables data entry, journal entries and reconciliation of payroll and benefits accounts, and review of employee expense reporting system.
**Education & Experience**:
- College degree or equivalent experience.
- 2-4 years of experience processing payroll.
- Knowledge of payroll laws, rules, regulations, audits and internal control guidelines.
- Experience with Ceridian.
- Ability to adapt quickly to change.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
