Our mission is to provide high-quality, family-centered, and community-based residential and respite care for individuals with complex care needs. Safehaven serves individuals with disabilities and their families through respite and residential programs at our Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, Woodbridge, and Aurora facilities, as well as client homes.

**Role Summary**:
The Recreation Coordinator role at Safehaven provides a range of duties that may include advocacy for community outreach, consultation, and recreation program implementation.

The individual in this role is accountable for the development of recreational activities and programming across the six (6) Safehaven locations acting as a support to the frontline staff, supervisors, clients and families for residential and respite clients and families. It is a part-time role and is anticipated for 24 hours per week.

**Responsibilities**:
**1. Recreation**:

- Plan, lead and organize recreation and leisure activities for clients, including, but not limited to Games, Playing, Baking, Arts & Crafts, and Community Outings
- Accompanies clients to therapeutic and recreational appointments as requested by the Client Care Coordinator
- Provides on-site direction and general guidance, education or training of equipment if needed.
- Performs administrative tasks to support the program, including collaborating with members of the leadership team to assist with the purchase of program supplies.
- Participates in meetings and training sessions as needed.
- Completes required documentation and reports and keeps confidential case records for each client in care.
- Other duties may assign to you by your supervisor and indirect supervisor according to the needs of the business/ organization.

**2. Community Outreach**:

- Participates in the planning, evaluation, and implementation of community outreach activities through the development of collaborative partnerships with other services such as schools, community organizations and other stakeholders that enhance the recreation programming at Safehaven.
- Organizes and participates in educational seminars, workshops, and training for clients, family/guardians, service providers, and employees where interest and ability exist.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-Secondary Education or continuously enrolled in one or more of the following: Early Childhood Educators - Registered ECE, Ontario College of Teacher, Child and Youth, Social Worker, Recreation and Leisure, Psychology, Sociology or Kinesiology
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Standard First Aid - CPR C Certification including infant, and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation as recognized by WSIB.
- At least three (3) years relevant work experience.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills and ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and compose correspondence.
- Experience working with clients who have developmental disabilities and or medical complexities (preferred)
- Onsite and rotate across the Safehaven locations as needed.
- Access to a reliable vehicle or ability to find own transportation to other Safehaven sites.
