**Opportunity**
The Youth Housing Worker aims to carry out the strategic objectives of Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) to ensure the provision of effective and efficient services to families and youth involved the program.
The Worker will provide 1-1 case management and support diverse youth residing in our co-ed Semi Independent Living homes. Staff will provide one-on-one support, life skills and individualized goals as well as group activities such as house meetings and house cleaning. This position involves developing relationships with youth as well as liaising with professionals such as social workers, school personnel, and community staff. Provide individualized housing support to vulnerable youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Vancouver area. Youth Housing workers also provide housing search support, moving assistance, landlord advocacy, mediation and liaison with social workers to support youth to find, secure and move to safe and affordable housing.
**Core hours of work: Various shifts according to program need. This position requires schedule that includes one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday)**
**Responsibilities**
- Develop supportive and engaging relationships with youth.
- Develop individualized service and transition plans collaboratively with participants.
- Assist youth in maintaining program expectations such as attending meetings, maintaining unit cleanliness, supporting participants to attend school, work, or volunteer opportunities, and maintaining connection with other support workers.
- Maintain accurate case notes, monitoring youth progress, engagement, and participation in the program;
- Other duties such as moving support, collection of rent, and other administrative tasks may be required.
- Provide individualized housing support to vulnerable youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Vancover area.
- Provide housing search support, moving assistance, landlord advocacy, mediation and liaise with social workers to support youth to find, secure and move in to safe and affordable housing.
- Provide housing and life skills supports to youth residing in our Semi-independent living homes program.
- Workers will develop relationships with youth in addition to liaising with professionals such as social workers, school personnel, and other community staff.
- Responsibility to assist in move in, move out inspections, monthly room inspections
- Ensure sites are presentable, clean and organized
- Housing workers are part of Vancouver Youth Services and may be called upon to support other programs and services in their day-to-day activities.
- Participate and engage in a collaborative and effective staff team.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and staff and participate in team efforts.
- Participate in professional development and training.
- Participate on committees, working groups, and associations; and develop community networks relevant to managed services
**Qualifications**
- B.A. in a related field and 2 years direct experience with at-risk youth. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector
- Current Basic First Aid certificate (formerly OFA Level 1)
- MANDT/NVCI certification
- Class 5 Driver’s License with Business Use Insurance
- Use of own vehicle may be required (Mileage is paid); Drivers Abstract will be required
**Additional Assets**
- Sound understanding of tenant and landlord rights
- Sound understanding of required housing related documentation
- A thorough knowledge of relevant government legislation and systems.
- Ability to respond to crisis scenarios using agency protocols and ethics.
- Effective team collaboration skills.
- Experience creating and working within a culturally inclusive environment for staff, partners, and participants.
- Strong verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple, often conflicting priorities.
