Reporting to the **Manager, Vancouver Island Operations**, the **Power Utility Interconnections Specialist (BC Hydro) **will be responsible for delivering both planning level and detailed distribution design analysis and problem solving for land developers. This position focuses on the electrical utility perspective and will extend to become knowledgeable in telecommunications, gas and other shallow utility planning. This position is based in our **Victoria** office but is flexible with location and the extent of remote work.

**Responsibilities**:

- Detailed and planning level design analysis of underground and overhead electrical distribution infrastructure (4kV - 25kV systems); learning industry best practices as demonstrated by experienced electrical engineering staff.
- Delivering proposals covering overhead and underground electric utility planning options, design and estimates for clients
- Undertaking electrical engineering calculations for underground and overhead systems
- Creating Class 5 Cost Estimates relaying a high degree of variability and risk
- Scope coordination with customers, municipal authorities, other utilities & various project stakeholders
- Involved problem solving, needing to think out-of-the-box and come up with creative solutions
- Exhibit strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with various internal and external stakeholders
- Other duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Technical degree, diploma, or Engineering bachelor’s degree (electrical strongly preferred) from a recognized college or university
- At least 6 years of experience working in the electric utility or consulting engineering environment, ideally with experience in planning/design and cost estimating of electrical distribution projects
- A solid understanding of BC Hydro design & planning standards and policy.
- Familiarity with land development and civil engineering
- Great interpersonal skills with the ability to develop business relationships conducted in a professional manner
- Strong collaborative skills and willingness to liaise in a customer-facing role with other disciplines (marketing, drafting, construction, survey, and civil) to ensure projects are accurate, compliant, on-time and on-budget
- Self-motivator, ability to learn and adapt to changing environment
- A passion for your work and a drive for excellence

**A few qualifications that would help you succeed**:

- Experience in an electrical utility design or planning environment is preferred
- Design, delivery or other exposure to telecommunication, gas, street lighting or Traffic Signals design or planning is beneficial
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and projects
- Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam or other design/drafting software
- Project management experience - Particularly in land development or distribution design
