The Ministry of Health works to ensure Albertans receive the right health care services, at the right time, in the right place, provided by the right health care providers and teams.
The Information Management Branch within the Health Information Systems Division facilitates the strategic planning and delivery of information management and technology systems as well as services that support the enterprise strategic goals of the Alberta Health Ministry and the health system.
The eHealth Strategy and Governance Unit operates at a strategic level in relation to information management, technology planning and governance. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, the unit manages the following functions:
- Health information strategy and planning
- eHealth information governance
- Strategic oversight of Alberta Health Services Connect Care (AHS’s clinical information system)
- Oversight and support of other eHealth strategic initiatives
- Federal/Provincial/Territorial (FPT) engagement and collaboration on eHealth to maximize shared investments and contribute to collective outcomes, the unit works with FPT counterparts to facilitate the advancement of eHealth on a provincial and national scale.

The eHealth Policy Analyst supports the development and advancement of the Provincial eHealth Strategy and related strategies and plans, ensuring they are aligned with Ministry policy, strategies, plans and priorities, and cross-ministry initiatives. This position provides advice, recommendations, project/portfolio plans and strategy options to management, as required. Through collaboration and consensus building, this position works closely with key internal and external stakeholders, fosters relationships, and provides advice and recommendations to various levels of management. The eHealth Policy Analyst also contributes to the effective strategy, management and execution of the Provincial eHealth Governance Structure, and the services and policies to support it, and supports collaborative efforts on eHealth with FPT counterparts.
As a key team player, you have a proven track record with strategy, planning, and policy development to enable solutions to complex problems. Using your strong understanding of eHealth, health information systems, governance and project management, you will be able to coordinate, provide status updates, and support implementation of the Provincial eHealth Strategy and the eHealth governance program. Your strong analytical and interpersonal skills make it easy for you to identify issues and solutions, clarify impacts, develop recommendations for decision makers, and track the progress of various projects. Your strong writing and communication skills will be essential for simplifying complex topics into solutions for management, as well as drafting high-quality briefings, policy documents, project plans, reports and presentations.
- Responsibilities:
- Support the development and maintenance of the Provincial eHealth Strategy, Implementation Plan, and Evaluation Plan
- Support the policy and program planning work associated with the eHealth Governance Program
- Acting with a high degree of autonomy to support provincial electronic health record and various other eHealth initiatives as well as adapting to ever-changing stakeholder requirements as provincial systems evolve
- The position provides advice and recommendations to management to address gaps in eHealth strategies and portfolio initiatives, policies, and plans
- The eHealth Policy Analyst is involved in major initiatives having provincial impact affecting the entire health sector and beyond whereby activities are typically of a high-profile nature, involving multiple stakeholders, and results are achieved in a politically sensitive environment
