**Primary Responsibilities**:

- This position is primarily responsible for the advancement of the MP’s priorities in Ottawa as well as those related to the Constituency.
- This includes overseeing overall advancement of established priorities including anticipating, and monitoring emerging issues at the federal, provincial, and municipal level.
- Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Parliamentary Office and ensuring the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team to support the work of the Member.
- Responsible for managing the MP’s schedule in Ottawa and arranging meetings with other MPs and Ministers.
- Support the MP in all parliamentary activities: prepare material for and attend committee meetings to provide additional support, prepare briefing materials for meetings, schedule and draft house interventions as needed, etc.
- Oversee the development and implementation of a communications plan in collaboration with the chief of staff and the communications assistant.
- Develop a strong understanding of the Rules relating to Conflicts of Interest/Ethics that pertain to the MP and to all staff; and a strong understanding of the rules pertaining to House of Commons procedure.
- Responsible for staffing the MP at Ottawa events, required. As directed, attend meetings on behalf of the MP, record meeting notes and conduct all necessary follow-up / plus action items.
- Providing regular updates to the MP on activities and issues of interest and concern to the MP.
- Manage and implement special projects.
- Conducts relevant research and analysis of issues, policies, and legislation.
- Responsible for tracking the progress and status of legislation (government and private members business), regulations and policies as required (House of Commons, Committee and Senate procedures / plus process).

**Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in political science, law, communications, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree in the disciplines mentioned or related, would be a strong asset.
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills, and superior interpersonal skills.
- Thrives in a dynamic and challenging environment and can manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Able to work well both independently in Ottawa, and as part of a broader team including Constituency Staff in Québec.
- Consistently displays sound judgment and strong political acumen.
- Solid understanding of the Federal Government decision-making process and the Parliamentary system.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.) is required, as well as experience using various social media platforms and simple graphic design (Canva).
- High-functioning proficiency or bilingualism (English and French) in both verbal and written is a pre-requisite.
- Knowledge of Saint-Léonard - Saint-Michel, including key stakeholders, communities, challenges, and opportunities in the riding, would be a strong asset.
- Previous work experience assisting an elected representative would be considered an asset.

**Working Conditions**
- Hours of Work: Full-time, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Evening when the House is sitting and weekend work may be required.
- Entry in post: As soon as possible.
- Primary location of work: Parliamentary Office (Justice Building, Ottawa)
- Reporting Structure: The Legislative Assistant reports directly to the Chief of Staff and to the Member of Parliament.
- Salary: Compensation is dependent on qualifications and experience.

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
