**Our Team**

**The Mines Technical Services Team **is integral for employee safety and providing mine engineering support to Vale’s producing mining operations. Members of this team work collaboratively to support mine sites engineering needs including **ground control **, and short to mid-range mine planning is completed in accordance with the mine’s needs while maintaining a high standard of safety and productivity. Team members are also involved in the development of process improvement initiatives, practices, and procedures in co-operating with other support groups and the mine operations team.

**The Opportunity**

Additionally, in this position you will:

- Follow Vale’s Safety Policy and Legislative Standards
- Develop skills and abilities related to the provision of engineering to Ontario Operations, maintaining a high level of professional conduct
- Identify, analyze, recommend, and bring into action opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements
- Provide technical support to an existing team of geologists, mining engineers, and geotechnical engineers, performing both technical services execution support (survey, ventilation, and ground control) as well as in mine planning & design (stope and development packages, short term scheduling)
- Participates in the design, evaluation, and support of underground mining operations. Design packages include drill and blast layouts, driving layouts, filling packages, etc.

**Accountabilities**

Duties of the job will include and are not limited to:

- Providing geotechnical engineering support to an existing team of geologists, and mining engineers.
- Participating in the design, evaluation, and support of underground mining operations.
- Performing beat inspections, issue weekly beat reports, and focus on supporting short-range mining plans.
- Updating logbooks, issue prints, document any field observations, etc.
- Establishing daily morning seismic routines, checking seismic trends, and be aware of the location of seismic events at the mine.
- Reviewing all 20-scale prints, fill packages, and stope packages.

**About You**
- Undergraduate Degree in Mining Engineering. Must be eligible to register as an Engineer in Training with the professional engineering association in Ontario (PEO).
- Early career (0 to 2 years), mid-level (3 to 7 years) and senior profiles (8 + years) are welcome
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Experience with engineering design software such as Deswik (training can be provided)
- Commitment to safety
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
- Adaptability and flexibility
- Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills
- Must have strong organization and time management skills
- Takes initiative and can self-direct to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
